About Smart Works 

At Smart Works Leeds we harness the power of clothes and confidence to allow a woman to be her best at a crucial moment in her life, giving her the confidence, the self-belief and the practical tools required to transform her life. 

We support women throughout their employment journey, from coaching to apply for suitable roles, to providing high-quality interview clothes and interview coaching, then a capsule wardrobe when she has got the job. The service is completely free of charge and the clothes are theirs to keep. 

We are proud that 70% of the women we have supported have succeeded at their job interview. 

At Smart Works Leeds we have a small staff team of three, a Board of eight Trustees and over twenty regular volunteers. 

Job Role 

Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Outreach Projects Officer’s objective would be to reach more women from Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, raising awareness of our services and supporting additional clients from these communities over a 12-month period. This role would focus on creating new (and building on existing) relationships with organisations supporting women from BAME communities across the county, with a focus on cities such as Leeds, Bradford, Doncaster and York.

We are delighted that this role is grant funded for 1 year. 

The role would include 

  • Undertaking research and creating a project plan for this work
  • Building positive relationships with charities and organisations who work with women from BAME communities 
  • Organising events and information sessions to inspire interest in our service 
  • Presenting to partners and potential clients from across the county 
  • Organising bespoke projects with charities that enables more clients to access our support
  • Increasing the client numbers from BAME communities to access our service
  •  Responding to email and phone enquiries
  • Posting on our social media platforms to encourage engagement
  • Making client follow-up calls, creating case studies and reporting on successes 

Person Specification 

This position would suit a self-starting, ambitious, fantastic communicator, who is passionate about improving outcomes for women from BAME communities 

Required

  •  Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and presenting training to large groups
  • Experience of outreach working with or supporting BAME communities
  • Experience of report writing 
  • Experience managing own projects
  • Ability to build relationships with a wide range of people
  • Experienced at working within a fast paced organisation, where flexibility is key
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook 
  • Experience using databases/CRM systems 
  • An understanding of the issues and challenges faced by BAME communities that are marginalised /socially excluded

 

 

Desirable

  • Experience of working within the charity sector/non-profit 
  • Experience or interest in social media/marketing 
  • Lived experience of the challenges our organisation is trying to tackle 
  • Project management skills
