The role and its responsibilities
The Events team at SOAS (Manager and two Events officers) is responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of all SOAS-wide events to a high standard; providing information, advice, guidance and consultancy to the school on organising high-profile, quality events; and leading the School’s public affairs through events. They will assist in the management of senior external contacts in order to facilitate successful events and networking between SOAS, its stakeholders and other organisations at a senior level
Skills and experience
We are looking for a strong communicator with the ability to build relationships and interact at different levels in the organisation and with a range of external contacts. You will have excellent organisational skills and are likely to have experience in delivering multiple, simultaneous large-scale events, probably in higher education. You will used to working under pressure and meeting deadlines. You need a keen eye and attention to detail.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat as well as use of databases, CRM and web content management systems will be valuable. You will need to be flexible in relation to working arrangements as work at unsocial hours will be required regularly.
About the Directorate for External Engagement and Public Affairs
External Engagement and Public Affairs is a new Directorate that has been created to oversee and coordinate the School’s external engagement strategy and communications and is responsible for: public affairs/external engagement and how this links to public policy; fundraising, alumni engagement and institutional advancement; strategic and corporate communications; public affairs and executive support to the Directors, COO and Pro Directors.
