Support Coordinator

The Role
The service aims to identify and address the needs of stroke survivors and carers whose lives are affected by aphasia, by providing a range of innovative support solutions, supporting them to meet their desired outcomes. The UK government’s resettlement programmes (such as the UKRS, ARAP as well as other UK Resettlement Schemes) support refugees who are selected and processed in the region of origin and brought to the UK with their status already determined. Under these schemes, a specific quota of refugees will be coming to the UK for resettlement.
The Resettlement Team in Yorkshire and Humberside provides advice and support for resettled refugees to help them access services and mainstream provision, and establish community links. Working closely with local stakeholders and in partnership with other voluntary sector agencies running similar services across the UK, the Refugee Council resettlement team promotes both the integration and independence of this group.
The main purpose of the job is to recruit train and support volunteers working in our Resettlement team. The post will also have a remit for ensuring we meet the criteria for meeting the Investing in Volunteers UK Quality standard. This post will report to the Area Manager in Leeds and will be working with volunteers and refugees across Wakefield, York and surrounding areas.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To provide information about the work of the Refugee Council to potential volunteers and to maintain regular contact with refugee community and other organisations which might provide a potential source of volunteers for the Refugee Council.
- To work with the managers and resettlement workers within the team to identify the potential need for volunteers and the necessary skills required.
- To recruit, induct and train volunteers so that they can be deployed and matched effectively within the regional programme this will involve supporting them in day-to-day and operational issues.
- To ensure that volunteers are valued and supported in their engagement with the Refugee Council and to ensure that volunteers are engaged in various roles and in such ways as to ensure compatibility with the organisational principles on volunteering.

The team works with unpaid Adult Carers, Young Adult Carers and Young Carers, completing statutory and holistic assessments to understand people’s individual circumstances and level of need. You will carry out home visits and community meetings, co-produce support plans, and develop effective relationships with Unpaid Carers, families, and professionals.
You’ll build on your local knowledge to signpost and facilitate access for Unpaid Carers to support services, including financial and benefit advice, housing, health and safety home systems, and leisure and social activities. You will also support the development of escalation plans so that Unpaid Carers are prepared for unforeseen circumstances that would impact negatively on ability to care.
Applicants should have relevant personal or professional experience of working with Unpaid Carers and/or vulnerable adults or children in a social care, health, education or voluntary and community sector. The Role
The Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of our youth development programme for young refugees and asylum seekers.
You will be focused on ensuring our programme activities achieve our outcomes, are in line with our strategy and identify areas for change and development under the direction of the Head of Services. Job Description
To be responsible for coordinating, planning, and delivering our youthwork programme in Brent, ensuring you are focused on achieving our outcomes and impact for young refugees and asylum seekers – and working within our current strategy, youth development strategy and implementation plan. Our current youth work activities are:
· 1:1 youthwork
· Young Women’s’ Group
· Support and Advice Hub (including cricket and football)
· Youth Club
· Trips and Residentials

2. To manage the Brent Youth Development Team
· Line manage Youth Development Workers
· Supervise volunteers to enable them to support activities with young people
· Assist the Head of Services with the recruitment and induction of staff and volunteers, ensuring young people’s participation in the process.
· To ensure excellent monitoring and evaluation
· To have a supportive and wellbeing-focused approach to line management of staff - ensuring regular one-to-one supervision meetings and annual Performance and Development Reviews.
3. To play a key role in the delivery of our weekly Youth Club and Advice and Support Hub. This includes working closely with the Head of Services, Casework Manager and Hub partners and subsequent follow-up actions relating to supporting young people access their rights and entitlements.
4. To play a key role in developing and co-ordinating youth participation work, working closely with young people and the Head of Services:
· To ensure the views of young people are central to the shaping and delivery of all youth activities in Brent.
· to be responsible for ensuring young refugees and asylum seekers are meaningfully involved in participation opportunities – or other relevant projects.
5. To be responsible for ensuring there are adequate volunteers/staff present to safely run each session/trip and to find staff cover in the case of illness or absence.
6. To identify, propose and with agreement from the Head of Services, develop and run new projects in line with our new strategy and implementation plan, meeting unmet need and with advice from young refugees and asylum seekers in Brent and surrounding areas.
7. To ensure targeted outreach to young asylum seekers and refugees, publicising projects creatively and appropriately, including at relevant schools and colleges in the local area.
8. To ensure excellent safeguarding practice, and always follow our Safeguarding Policy, reporting any Safeguarding incidents to the Designated Safeguarding Lead ad ensuring they are informed, and appropriate, timely action is taken.
9. To work with the Impact and Communications Manager to provide content (photos, videos, quotes, case studies) which is safe for and respectful of the young people we support, with the right permissions that can be used as part of communications to our supporters, on social media and as evidence of our work to funders.
10. Ensure activities in Brent are monitored and evaluated in line with the agreed protocols.
11. To build collaborative relationships with partners and referral organisations attending and organising partnership meetings as required.
12. Manage new referrals to the service alongside our Casework manager

The Wellbeing Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being of children and young people attending our camps. They will assess the social, emotional, and developmental needs of children and young people attending camp to determine the support needed during the camp experience. They will work alongside volunteers and colleagues to implement support strategies at camp that meet these needs.
They must assess, respond to, and escalate safeguarding concerns. The successful candidate will be a registered Children's Nurse with experience in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) or a special interest in children's mental health. They will work closely with camp staff, healthcare professionals, and volunteers to create a nurturing environment that supports the diverse needs and will contribute, when appropriate to nursing / clinical knowledge to ensure a safe and effective service.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Over The Wall seeks an individual passionate about the well-being needs of children and young people who use our service. You will also be a qualified nurse and occasionally use your clinical knowledge and skills to support the OTW Nursing Team when necessary.
Knowledge and expertise:
- Apply the basic principles of child and adolescent development and theoretical knowledge to work with children, young people, and their families.
- Sensitively relate to children and families of diverse backgrounds.

Then join our team supporting Young Carers, aged 5-18 years, who have caring responsibilities for someone in their family due to disability, long-term illness, mental health, or drug or alcohol misuse.
You’ll deliver the service across Gravesham, so your own car is essential. You will manage an existing caseload and new referrals, meeting with families and Young Carers to complete statutory assessments, and providing short-term interventions that support Young Carers to improve their resilience, educational chances and wellbeing. This might be signposting to local services, action planning, one-to-one support, or our workshop programme.
Working closely with schools and Childrens Services, you will make referrals to a range of professionals and community services, ensuring whole family needs are met and thereby reducing the impact of caring on the Young Carer.
As a CYP Coordinator, you will plan and deliver workshop sessions and respite activities, providing opportunities for Young Carers to spend time with their peers and recognise that they are not alone.
Applicants may have relevant experience of working or volunteering in education, health or social care, or be looking to start a career working with children or young people. This is a part-time role (22.5 hours); some early evenings required.
