ROLE

Stella Maris is growing as a charity, in terms of income generation and new programmes of activity around the world. To help support this development, we have created this new important role. The Fundraising & Communications team at Stella Maris comprises about 12 staff members (some full time; some part time).  The team and the charity have now reached the point in their evolution where we need to appoint a Major Donor Manager. This post holder will offer excellent stewardship to our existing Major Donors. He/she will also help to identify and cultivate new potential Major Donors from within and outside our existing pool of individual donors. He/she will substantially grow the Major Donor income stream for the charity. He/she will cultivate and steward Major Donors to give in new and more impactful ways, will increase giving levels, will increase the number of Major Donors, and will create lasting and meaningful relationships with our most committed and generous supporters. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, motivated and effective Major Donor fundraiser. The postholder will help us, as a leading maritime charity, to achieve our mission to support seafarers, fishers and their families around the world.

MAIN PURPOSE

The Major Donor Manager, reporting into the Director of Development and working with some guidance from the Head of Major Gifts, will maintain and grow a stable pipeline of income from Major Donors. He/she will secure unrestricted and restricted income from a portfolio of Major Donors to support the activities of the Stella Maris network in the UK and overseas. He/she will produce cultivation plans for individual Major Donors, meet them, craft tailored applications and reports for them.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1 Manage relationships with a portfolio of Major Donors in accordance with the Charities fundraising strategy and giving programme activity.

2 Establish individual donor cultivation, engagement and stewardship strategies, ensuring each prospect and existing donor has an appropriate communications and cultivation programme in place.

3 Ensure that donor profiling and research activity is undertaken on existing and potential Major Donors (within data protection regulation guidelines) in order to enhance and develop relations.

4 Identify potential Major Donors from within the Mid-Value Donor portfolio and help graduate them up to Major Donor giving levels.

5 Working with the Governance and Executive team, conduct meetings and visits with individual Major Donors around the UK.

6 Accompany Major Donors on port visits within the UK and possibly abroad.

7 Craft carefully tailored applications, thank you letters and reports for Major Donors.

8 Support other senior staff and stakeholders, such as Trustees, in cultivating relationships with Major Donors by providing research and other information as required, and bringing them to meetings with Major Donors when appropriate.

9 Build and cultivate relationships with intermediaries, e.g. wealth advisers, lawyers.

10 Arrange events for Major Donors.

11 Ensure that all activity is recorded accurately on the charity’s Customer Relationship Management database, and that actions are undertaken in a timely and professional manner. 

12 Extract monthly reports on activity levels with Major Donors, e.g. number of contacts, meetings, asks, etc., and circulate this internally to selected senior staff members.

The Trussell Trust are seeking a Philanthropy Executive to join our high-performing Major Donor team. The Philanthropy Executive supports the work of the team with executive tasks and in managing the stewardship communications for a specific caseload tier of supporters. You will help to develop our plans for working with this tier, liaising with the Individual Giving team to manage the donor journey between mid-value and the major donor caseload. You will co-ordinate a tailored programme of stewardship communications and engagement helping to build and deepen long-term relationships and secure income. 

Role responsibilities 

• Stewarding a tier of donors to bring them closer to our work, planning and coordinating a programme of one-to-many communications, asks and appeals as well as quarterly updates (to be used across the major donor caseload), thanking donors, and helping to build understanding of the impact of their support.

• Managing the philanthropy team inbox and providing first point of contact for enquiries and colleagues, fielding them to the relevant team members. 

• Co-ordinating with the Individual Giving mid-value team to effectively manage supporter journeys. Liaising with the Supporter Care team to ensure that contact records are accurate and data protection compliant, and that gifts are coded and recorded correctly on our database. 

• Supporting the Major Donor team with executive tasks such as keeping accurate records, liaising with external suppliers, assisting with comms creation in liaison with the Marcomms teams; sourcing relevant content for donor updates; assisting with mailings and invitations to events; using Salesforce to identify and qualify prospects and performing basic desktop research; producing briefings; producing reports. 

• Attending internal meetings and gathering information to ensure our team are abreast of developments across the organisation. 

Person Specification 

Technical skills and minimum knowledge: 

• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing

• A high level of numeracy and IT literacy, including proficiency using Outlook, Microsoft Office suite and video conferencing software. 

• A high standard of personal organisation and the ability to work on multiple projects, identifying conflicting demands and establishing clear priorities to meet deadlines 

• Ability to distil large volumes of information and detail into compelling and succinct communications using a variety of methods.

Role: Senior Supporter Acquisition Manager

We are looking for Senior Supporter Acquisition Manager to join our Fundraising directorate and lead a brilliant team to develop and implement a range of supporter acquisition marketing programmes and to achieve the growth ambitions of our Fundraising strategy.

The Supporter Acquisition team is responsible for all marketing to attract new supporters across a large portfolio of appeals/products and media.  We are looking for someone to join us who has significant expertise with a wide range of marketing channels and can really add value to large well-established programmes with their experience, knowledge and drive to continually improve, identify appropriate new opportunities and shape supporter acquisition programmes.

The role involves managing an experienced team of two managers and a co-ordinator, and leading relationships with a number of suppliers.  The marketing programmes currently include face-to-face fundraising (from stands in retail space or at expos/outdoor events), DRTV and other forms of advertising, print – door drops/partially addressed mail/inserts and payroll giving.  An important part of the role is developing advertising for the nation’s largest charity appeal, the Poppy Appeal each November.

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. Purpose of the Senior Corporate Fundraising Officer role:   

As Senior Corporate Fundraising Officer, the successful candidate will play an integral role in the implementation and maintenance of a rolling programme of prospect identification, research and the nurturing of relationships. Leading on maximising support through the corporate fundraising streams, the post holder will draft and submit applications among other approaches to prospective funders and donors. In addition to developing persuasive cases for support in line with organisational priorities, the post holder will ensure that the activities for which funds are sought are impactful, measurable and can be effectively reported on to funders. Understanding Women’s Aid work, business plans and strategic priorities will be essential, as well as an involvement in fundraising events with the purpose of relationship building, nure and networking.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Senior Corporate Fundraising Officer: 

• Line managing one team member 

• To be responsible for a portfolio of prospective and existing corporate supporters to solicit large donations, funding and ensure meaningful partnerships are created 

• Work to match funders aims with Women’s Aid’s vision, purpose and mission – using creativity and innovation to package up relevant areas of Women’s Aid work and strategy to be appealing to funders 

• Understanding the organisational needs and strategy in order to provide excellent account management to Corporate funders and Major Donors/High Givers. 

• To employ a variety of personal engagement mechanisms to ensure that prospects and supporters become, and remain, fully engaged with our cause whilst ensuring the highest level of standards of data capture are maintained on the organisational CRM.

What we are looking for in our Senior Corporate Fundraising Officer:  

• Proven experience of successful fundraising from Corporate supporters, major & mid level donors and Trusts.

• Experience of acquiring and managing corporate Charity of the Year partnerships.

• Demonstrable initiative and determination. 

• Line management experience. 

• Experience of writing reports on activities, summarising and analysing figures to make recommendations using Word, Excel and databases. 

• Experience of managing events for high level donors. 

• Experience of researching and developing targeted proposals for presentation to prospective corporate partners and major donors. 

• Experience of developing a strategy to meet targets. 

• Excellent attention to detail and accurate record keeping.

• A flexible approach to work, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities. 

• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to liaise with people at all levels, on the telephone, face to face and in writing, and confident making presentations to diverse audiences. 

• Ability to monitor and evaluate patterns of support and match appropriate project proposals. 

• Experience of working within agreed budget constraints, ensuring that expenditure is maintained within budgets, and that income is closely monitored. 

• Experience of compiling budgets for funders. 

• Good knowledge of the funding landscape and of best practice in multiple areas of fundraising (corporate, trusts and foundations, and major donor). 

• Experience of using a CRM database, preferably Raiser’s Edge. 

• Willingness to work occasional unsocial hours as required. 

• Understanding of the role of Women’s Aid, of domestic abuse and the issues relating including the impacts on women and children.
