Solent Mind
Southampton (On-site)
£19,880 – £21,409 pa (plus enhancements for unsocial hours)
Permanent, Part-time, 15 hours per week
Job description

Our vision is for a world where everyone experiencing a mental health issue receives support and respect. Join our passionate, dedicated team and make a difference today.

The Lighthouse offers support to people experiencing or at risk of a crisis, delivered in partnership between Solent Mind and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. Following a successful pilot, this innovative service is expanding, and we are recruiting for additional members to join our team to help support even more people in our region. The Lighthouse offers face-to-face support at our Southampton centres, alongside a remote service using text and telephone, through an integrated team of peer and nursing staff.

About the role

As part of The Lighthouse Team, you will play a vital part in supporting people experiencing or at risk of a mental health crisis, in partnership with mental health nursing colleagues from Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.

As a Peer Specialist, you will be using your own mental health experiences to support people who are in distress, providing a safe space for them to talk and make sense of their experiences, both in person and via telephone or text. You will also support people to identify their strengths and goals and to develop and use coping techniques

As one of our Peer Specialists, you will work part-time, 15 hours per week, which will involve 4pm – 12am shifts on a rota basis, including weekends and bank holidays. Unsocial hours enhancements will apply.

About you

You will need to have personal, lived experience of a mental health issue, as well as the compassion and confidence to calmly and effectively support people who are distressed and/or in crisis, in person and by telephone and text.

Compliance with the requirements of Vaccination as a Condition of Deployment (VCOD) regulations is necessary for this role unless an exemption applies. The successful applicant may have contact with vulnerable service users, and we will therefore seek proof of being fully vaccinated during the recruitment process.
