Job description

Key responsibilities

Tasks will vary from week-to-week depending on priorities, but regular tasks will include:

Clinical Administration and Co-ordination

Work alongside the organisational team to discharge the following duties:

  • Book in clients for assessments within a short and responsive timeframe
  • Ensure liaison between counsellor and client is timely and accurate following allocation of clients to suitable counsellors (including taking note of complex matches),
  • Co-ordinate the counselling waiting list, monitor and suggest new ways of working to minimise the delay
  • Co-ordinate the clinical service outputs and support preparation of service statistics monthly to contribute to the dashboard
  • Respond to information requests from staff, counsellors, clients or external organisations in a timely manner
  • Prioritise supporting counsellors to complete assessments promptly and accurately, including CORE completion and monitoring
  • Provide training in CORE compilation, interpretation and safe use with counsellors and evaluation of support being? critical for individuals and the organisation
  • Support the Clinical Lead with a range of allocations from routine assessments to the most appropriate counsellor for 1:2:1 therapy work
  • Point of clinical contact, to work alongside the Service Director, in the absence of the Clinical Lead.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure post-holder and all counsellors understand and follow mandatory organisational and BACP accredited policies and processes
  • Support Somerset Counselling Centre to retain organisational membership of BACP and adhere to BACP ethical framework for the counselling professions
  • Comply with safeguarding policies implementation, including roadmap to risk and supporting risk management of clients - mandatory training for all
  • Support the GDPR requirements for counsellors’ work following the Somerset Counselling Centre policies and procedures.  Appropriate recording keeping within our secure systems - mandatory training for all
  • Support any changes in digital transformation – internally and externally.  Client management system internally – become the clinical system champion
  • Support work to contribute to the client feedback process: improvements, changes to implement and support response to any complaints
  • Undertake appropriate personal therapy supervision which meets the needs of the role and your therapeutic practice.

Service Delivery

  • Support the Clinical Lead by the co-ordination of safe, professional and accessible delivery of long term, short term and project therapeutic services  
  • Monitor the safe execution of counselling in all settings.
  • Work with the organisational team to support successful projects delivery
  • Deliver 1:2:1 therapy and group work to meet the needs of specific project work and co-ordinate support from counsellors supporting SCC to deliver high standards of service
  • Contribute ideas to enable development of bids for new projects or grants to generate income
  • Support the Clinical Lead with on-going student placements, volunteer placements and support in organising a development calendar and CPD programme.

Overall

  • Contribute to team meetings, counsellor meetings with both staff and volunteers to collaborate, discuss and agree upon any required changes to service specifications and communications
  • Attend elements of Trustee meetings when required
  • Ensure confident and positive representation of self and SCC externally to promote the work of psychodynamic therapy
  • Undertake such duties not included in the job description, relevant to the level of role, as reasonably discussed with clinical lead and service director
  • On occasions, being available for out of core hours and flexible working.

Person specification

The person specification seeks to define a person most likely to be suited to the job of Somerset Counselling Centre: Senior Counsellor Co-ordinator.  Candidates are required to meet all the essential conditions and requirements listed (E) and the majority of the desired requirements (D). Qualifications and experience

  • 5 years post counselling qualification experience (E)
  • Recognised qualification in counselling or psychotherapy (Level 4 two-year diploma minimum) (E)
  • Experience of client allocations (E)
  • Experience of client assessments (E)
  • Experience of supporting group work (E)
  • Minimum of certificate in counselling supervision or equivalent experience (for example approx.10 years of counselling experience.) (D)
  • BACP accreditation/UKCP reg or equivalent (E)
  • Significant safeguarding experience (E)
  • Membership of a professional body, preferably BACP, UKCP or BPS (E)
  • Experience of delivering talks and presentations. (D)
  • Experience of co-ordinating counsellors (volunteers) (E)
  • Implementing and reviewing policy and procedure. (E)
  • Working within internal and external quality frameworks and supporting improvements in quality. (D)
  • Compiling and interpreting performance data and reporting against service targets. (E)
  • Successful experience of planning and co-ordinating multiple activities at once. (E)

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of and empathy for the issues facing people with mental health problems. (E)
  • Knowledge of the day-to-day application of relevant legislation e.g. GDPR, Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding. (E)
  • A thorough understanding of different counselling modalities and their pros and cons within a short-term counselling framework (E)
  • Understanding of the principles of ensuring safe service provision for people at risk and how these are put into practice. (E)
  • A thorough understanding of the BACP ethical framework for counselling professions (E)
