Job Description

Role: Chief Executive Officer / CEO

Salary: £50,000 pro rata

We are looking for a dynamic and influential Chief Executive Officer to lead and inspire our talented team of staff and volunteers.

The CEO is key to driving the Charity’s crucial task of supporting the third sector to deliver services to local people and communities, including the direct delivery of services when appropriate.

Maintaining the good reputation of South Derbyshire CVS is of critical importance, and the ability to build, develop and manage effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partnerships, is a key requirement.

Leadership is paramount and the post holder will have to be able to encourage and manage growth, provide direction, development, operational management and delivery, whilst maintaining the Charity's core values.

This is a permanent role working 22.5 hours per week, to be worked flexibly as required, Mon-Fri, with occasional evening/weekend working.

South Derbyshire CVS is a Company Limited by Guarantee which is registered with the Charity Commission, working to improve the quality of life for local people. We do this by providing services to individuals in need as well as supporting voluntary groups and communities to help themselves.

We are now looking for a new Chief Executive Officer / CEO to develop the organisation further and ensure our continued success.

Chief Executive Officer / CEO Main Duties:

  • The overall strategic management, leadership and development of the organisation
  • Working with the Chair and Board, the development of a vision for the future of the Charity, involving key stakeholders (including staff, volunteers and service users), ensuring operational delivery of the strategy, and that the organisation is responsive to the changing external environment
  • Provision of effective leadership during a period of significant change and beyond
  • Ensuring that the overall services offered, in terms of quality, performance and effectiveness meet the needs of the sector, customers and funders
  • Ensuring that the voice of local third sector organisations is represented, and influences the shaping of local policies and practices - including acting as a representative in an appointed or elected capacity, on statutory and partnership boards
  • Development and maintenance of strong and effective working relationships with key stakeholders, to ensure best possible outcomes for service users and their families, the local third sector and the wider community
  • Increasing awareness of the work of the organisation and managing its external reputation
  • Ensuring financial sustainability and income generation including contracts, grants, donations, membership and earned income - and identification and securing of new opportunities
  • Ensuring staff are deployed and managed effectively, in a positive working environment, and operating recognised best practice and legal compliance.
  • Providing evening/weekend Out of Hours Manager cover on a rota basis, with other members of the senior management team
  • The acceptance of telephone calls during the five day working week

Chief Executive Officer / CEO Necessary Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • A good standard of education and/or evidence of personal development
  • Communicate effectively with different audiences, having strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
  • Familiarisation with the latest regulatory and good practice requirements, including charity governance
  • Two years senior management experience (CEO/Deputy/Director level)
  • Direct personal experience at a senior level within the third sector (as an employee or trustee)
  • Able and willing to travel around Derbyshire and beyond
