The South West Academic Health Science Network (South West AHSN) is one of 15 AHSNs across the country set up by NHS England to spread innovation at pace and scale across the country. We are uniquely placed to connect NHS and academic organisations, local authorities, the third sector and industry, using our position to drive the adoption and spread of innovative ideas and technologies across large populations. Our remit covers Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, taking in urban areas and tackling the challenges associated with pockets of deep, long-standing and increasing deprivation, an aging population, children living in poverty, and a dispersed and sometimes isolated population. A major focus for us over the next five years is improving health equity through innovation.
We are growing our Programmes function to deliver the aims and ambitions of our new five-year strategy. This is an exciting period of growth and to support this we are seeking to expand team with a new post – Programme Operations Manager.
Reporting to our executive Programmes Director, you will play a vital role in coordinating operations and resources across our programmes. Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing a central PMO function, working closely with senior colleagues and executive directors to ensure our programmes are effectively planned, resourced, managed, and reported on
- Developing and maintaining best practice processes, systems and templates associated with projects/programme management.
- Developing people and financial plans for our programmes, and leading regular reviews of progress against those plans.
- Leading improvements and efficiencies in our ways of working, implementing automated systems where appropriate.
- Managing programme governance and risk at portfolio level, working with the Programmes leadership team.
- Working with finance colleagues in development of financial data for programmes.
- Collaborating with HR colleagues on programme workforce matters, including recruitment and induction of programme staff
- Working with the Partnerships business function to monitor business development opportunities and associated resource requirements, inputting into the design of proposals as required.
Our team is diverse, and we celebrate those differences and the variety of skills all our team members bring. A background the health sector is not necessary for this post. We are looking for you to bring:
- Knowledge and experience of using management frameworks in a complex operational environment or PMO context.
- Programme management skills, including planning, risk and governance.
- An ability to work with data, performance and operational metrics to inform planning and decision making.
- Experience of working with corporate services colleagues in finance, HR and communications and a general understanding of financial and workforce planning
- Effective communication skills and the ability to build great working relationships with a range of people quickly and easily.
- Organisational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
