Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.
For many families there are issues that precede a young person’s gang involvement. Personal circumstances typically involve poverty, unsuitable housing, separation, family conflict, domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health and imprisonment. Without the right support, families can become trapped in a cycle of homelessness, crime, unemployment and poverty that is passed on from generation to generation.
St Giles Trust solution to this stark reality is our Children & Families Service. The C&F team offer an intensive and holistic approach and our caseworkers help to unlock chaotic families’ potential, and empowering them to raise themselves out of poverty.
About this key role
You will be embedded into the team, with a ‘whole family’ approach in mind to help and support families in order to assess risk, ensuring all family members feel safe, mentoring young people who are involved in or at risk of gang and serious youth violence and offering holistic support to enable the family to achieve their potential and raise aspirations.
We actively encourage people with personal experience of the criminal justice system or lived experience of the issues facing our clients to apply for this role.
What we are looking for:
- Personal experience of the Criminal Justice System, and/or being involved in a gang or knife crime.
- Experience of working with socially excluded children, young people and adults
- Experience of providing advice and guidance and/or mentoring to young people
- Mentoring Level 3 qualification (or be willing to work towards this).
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group, in particular barriers faced by people with lived in experience.
The salary for this role is £22,847- £26,350 pa – to be pro-rated (please note successful candidates should expect to be appointed at the starting point of the salary scale and consideration may be given to a higher salary depending on the experience of the individual).
