Job description

An additional on call allowance is applicable to this role, as the Strategic Communications Lead will be a member of the out of hours / on call communications team. This role can be based at home/hybrid working.

About the role

Strategic Communications Lead

As Strategic Communications Lead you play a key role in positioning St John as a leading voice in key public policy debates, helping to increase our impact on our mission and to develop markets that create increased revenue. You are responsible for developing a thought leadership strategy and managing key external relationships that ensure St John’s voice is heard in the best places to influence the actions of policy makers and customers. You know what it takes to land pieces of commentary in major broadsheet newspapers and how to help develop an organisation’s senior leaders into system-level influencers.

About you

As one of the country’s best-loved charities, St John Ambulance is playing a vital role in the response to COVID-19 and working on ambitious plans for beyond the pandemic.

At our heart, we know first aid saves lives, but there are so many strands to the work our volunteers and staff do to support the nation’s health.

We often say we’re well known, but not known well. You could help us change that.

Strategic Communications Lead is a new role that will help define our messages and position us as a leading voice in key debates, developing a thought leadership strategy and managing key external relationships to ensure that St John is heard in the best places to influence the actions of policy makers and customers.

We’re looking for someone who has a way with words. Someone who can make the complex compelling and find passion in policy.

And we hope you like variety. You might be writing a speech one moment to landing a piece of commentary in a broadsheet the next, as well as helping manage our reputation, and contributing to our new strategy and annual report.

If that sounds like you, apply today.

St John Ambulance has relieved people from illness, injury, distress and suffering for over 140 years and, with the public’s support, will do so for decades to come.

You will receive:

  • Competitive salary and pension scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Health and Wellbeing portal - access to financial, health and wellbeing support and an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Discounts – you’ll have access to Blue Light and NHS Discounts as well as discounts on mobile phones, gym memberships, cinema tickets, restaurants, holidays, and shopping.
