Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Facilities Assistant to join our team, based in London. You will be working on a full-time permanent basis and in return, will receive a competitive salary of £23,500 per annum.

Purpose of the Facilities Assistant role:

  • Being responsible for the visual presentation of the premises
  • Assisting the Facilities Team with keeping the building and machinery maintained effectively
  • Being responsible for the day-to-day compliance with health and safety related to this role
  • In the absence of the manager, co-ordinate casual staff and volunteers

Responsibilities of our Facilities Assistant will include:

  • With the team, deliver the daily, weekly, monthly facilities duties, including cleaning, and to make sure that St Luke’s is well presented for visitors
  • Supporting the Facilities Co-ordinator with overseeing the cleaning contracts and make sure that the contractors fulfil their obligations
  • Helping to source and oversee facilities contractors to provide general maintenance and make repairs when this cannot be undertaken by you and/or your team
  • Supporting the Facilities Team, to ensure that St Luke’s is compliant with all fire regulations, and in particular, carry out regular fire risk assessments
  • Ensuring that St Luke’s complies with health and safety requirements, general health and safety for all users and staff in the Centre
  • Assist with maintaining St Luke’s garden areas and Edible Yard
  • Ensuring all cleaning tasks are completed in a timely and effective manner
  • Complying with the Charity’s policies – including Diversity and Equal Opportunities, Fire, Health, and Safety, Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults

What we are looking for in our ideal Facilities Assistant:

Essential

  • A background in or experience of overseeing or working in a Facilities Team or an operational environment
  • Understanding of overseeing building maintenance contractors
  • An understanding of and willingness to learn on the job, of doing and overseeing minor repairs and maintenance, and controlling heating, ventilation, and other mechanical systems
  • An understanding of building related health and safety and willingness to learn and do training in this area
  • Experience of providing excellent customer service
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate confidently and effectively
  • A hands-on individual and flexible with regard to tasks including cleaning, light maintenance, and room presentation
  • IT literate
  • Able to work independently and demonstrate initiatives in improving facilities’ systems
  • Prioritisation and planning skills
  • A flexible approach to working days and hours when necessary

Desirable

  • Experience of managing staff and/or volunteers
  • An understanding of developing and overseeing planned preventative management systems
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Some training in managing a building
  • Understanding of IT environment
  • A full UK or EU driving licence (to include being allowed to drive a minibus)
