We have an exciting opportunity for you to work with data to help thousands of rough sleepers get the help they need. We are looking for a new Database Support Officer (known internally as a CHAIN Support Officer) to bring their enthusiasm, technical and communication skills to our fast paced environment, which nurtures future development opportunities.

About the role

CHAIN – the Combined Homelessness Information Network – is a multi-agency database for rough sleeping services in London. It plays a central role in the sector, allowing workers to share information with each other and ensuring their clients get the right support.

CHAIN was instrumental in coordinating the effort to help hundreds of people into accommodation during the Everyone In scheme in 2020. It is one of the world’s most comprehensive systems of its kind, and is used for developing London and UK-wide rough sleeping strategy and policy.

This dynamic role requires a flexible skillset, responsiveness and a willingness to learn. Housing outcomes for rough sleepers are one of the most important aspects of the data held in CHAIN, and in this role you will focus on making this information as comprehensive as possible.

Working collaboratively in a small team, you will:

  • Lead on supporting accommodation services such as No Second Night Out, hostels and assessment centres across London
  • Focus on engaging accommodation services with CHAIN, and help to devise solutions for improving and maintaining our accommodation dataset
  • Help to run the busy CHAIN Helpdesk service, fielding a wide range of enquiries and support requests
  • Create bespoke reports and statistics on request
  • Facilitate training sessions, inducting accommodation workers into the context of the system, data protection, and providing hands on training on how to use CHAIN
  • Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of the system

 

About you

The ideal candidate will combine a genuine enthusiasm for helping others and continuously improving services with great attention to detail and problem-solving skills. You’ll have a high level of skill in Excel and some understanding of managing databases. We’ll provide lots of support to develop your skills in using Access and Salesforce, data protection policies and your understanding of the work of the sector.  

This is an exciting time to become a Support Officer for CHAIN, as we carry out some major upgrades to the system and adapt to new ways of working. This role will involve working in our Tower Hill office at least three days per week, facilitating in-person group training and visiting rough sleeper services across London.
