Do you want to work in a role where you will support an end to rough sleeping?
About the role
Our belief is that rough sleeping is an intrinsically harmful and dangerous activity both for the individual and for the wider community. Therefore we take a proactive and assertive approach to supporting people away from this activity. Our aim is to support people to recover from the effects of rough sleeping and move away from a street lifestyle permanently. We are now looking for an Outreach Worker to join the First Response team on a 12 month fixed term contract to provide vital support to Street Outreach Services.
In this role, you will:
Undertake night outreach shifts to support the aims of the First Response team; and people sleeping rough.
Work on a weekly shift rota with typical shifts from 7pm-3am. You will be required to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights each week (additional shifts Monday – Friday to be agreed).
Take the lead on referrals and making contact with people who are sleeping rough to assess their needs and provide them with a variety of immediate off the street options where possible; and referring onto the Westminster Street Outreach Service (SOS) for ongoing support.
Coordinate First Response Volunteers on shift.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for highly motivated, committed individuals who share our ambition and have a genuine desire to support people to rebuild their lives. Additionally:
Some experience of dealing directly with the public and/or customers in a busy service environment.
Experience in dealing with rough sleepers with multiple needs and the ability to work with challenging behaviour.
Great communication skills and experience of working effectively with others.
Some understanding of the issues faced by homeless or vulnerably housed people and the difficulties they experience in accessing services.
The ability to empower individuals to make positive changes and a willingness to develop these valuable skills.
A UK driving license is essential to carry out the duties for this role.
What we offer
