Job description

Are you passionate about supporting an end to Rough Sleeping and joining our London Outreach teams at this crucial time of the year?

At St Mungo’s our vision is that everyone has a place to call home and can fulfil their hopes and ambitions. As a homelessness charity and housing association our clients are at the heart of what we do. We provide a bed and support to more than 2,700 people a night who are either homeless or at risk, and work to end homelessness and rebuild lives. Our work is ongoing, but, throughout the winter we will be providing more support to more people to ensure no one has to sleep rough throughout the coldest months of the year.

When working as an Outreach Worker you are involved in making contact with people sleeping rough, assessing their needs and delivering personalised case management; to support individuals to make the move away from the streets. Outreach Workers also work in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams and agencies.

We are looking for highly motivated people who share our ambition and have some experience of dealing directly with the public and/or customers in a busy service environment. Great communication skills and experience of working effectively with others is essential in this role.

This role will suit someone with experience in dealing with rough sleepers with multiple needs and the ability to work with challenging behaviour. You will also have some understanding of the issues faced by homeless or vulnerably housed people and the difficulties they experience in accessing services. If you have the ability to empower individuals to make positive changes and a willingness to develop these valuable skills we want to hear from you.

Above all we are looking for inspirational, committed individuals who have a genuine desire to support people to rebuild their lives.

Flexibility is required as you will be working outreach shifts at unsocial hours in accordance with the rota that may include, early, late and night shifts.

In return, we offer a range of benefits including a pension scheme, staff discounts scheme and initiatives to help you maintain a healthy work/life balance. We are also committed to providing our staff with a wide range of learning and development opportunities; in support of their personal and professional development.

If you believe that you have what we are looking for, and have an interest in working for a charity which makes a real difference to the lives of people who are homeless, we encourage you to apply.

We will be holding a Winter Recruitment Fair on 23, 29 and 30 October from 5 pm – 8 pm and on 26 October from 10 am – 2 pm, providing the opportunity to find out more about St Mungo’s, our Services and our current job opportunities.
