Previously hosted by Save the Children, the Start Network became an independent charity in May 2019.  We’re a global network of more than 40 aid agencies driving change in the global aid system to save more lives.  In our first months of independence, we are excited to be recruiting several new roles to grow our dynamic team. 

The Compliance Officer will play a key role in ensuring that the Start Network can realise its ambition to decentralise and expand its membership.  On an annual basis, we provide humanitarian funding to our members and partners in over 50 countries.  We are responsible for ensuring the highest standards of transparency, integrity, accountability.  We do this through our due diligence process that ensures our members have policies, procedures and systems in place to manage public funds – from safeguarding through to procurement.  Over the coming years, we aim to bring more local organisations into the network.  They will have the opportunity to join at different levels of due diligence and, with support, improve their policies, procedures and systems to move up the levels.  In this role, you will work with many different types of humanitarian organisation around the work, leading coordination of the process with an external firm. You will provide internal expertise on minimum donor requirements and develop a framework to enable organisations to improve their standards.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrable experience in managing operations, ideally leading on due diligence and/or compliance processes
  • An understanding of legal and Charity Commission requirements regarding due diligence
  • Experience of working with different types of donors and charities
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to work across teams
  • A collaborative approach, nurturing effective relationships and partnerships across organisational boundaries
  • An excellent team player, able to work flexibly and adapt to changing demands
