Job description

Reporting directly to the CEO, your role will include:

Website (managed by Digital Lead) 

Maintaining News & Blog and Events sections of website – writing & uploading news stories, events, blogs. Helping review website content including helping to grow the LGBT & BAME community sections of the website. 

Digital Marketing (managed by Digital Lead) 

Helping define digital marketing strategy & updating the contents calendar – campaigns, national awareness days, events etc. 

Creating & contributing content for social media (news items, videos, images etc). 

Looking at methods of increasing social media reach, e.g. through Instagram, YouTube, influencers, blogging for other sites.  Monitor social media effectiveness/responding to queries. Improving young people’s experience on stem4 social media platforms. 

Creating monthly newsletter for stem4 subscribers. 

Email marketing – sending out details of events, campaigns. 

Liaising with others in the team re supporting events through social media/website e.g. Fundraiser, Education Coordinator, Digital Lead. 

Helping to develop ideas for paid advertising – on search and social. 

Overseeing app content and communications calendar. 

Working with the Digital Coordinator on joint social media messages between stem4, Head Ed and the various apps. 


Involvement with education team on Head Ed updates and additions. 

Promoting any educational events, engaging in relevant content creating, etc. 


Helping with writing and distributing press releases. 

Developing relationships with local and national journalists to generate coverage for stem4. 

Youth Mental Health Day 

Project managing stem4’s national campaign day, including establishing a yearly theme, creating a successful social media campaign and engaging communities such as schools and youth groups. Developing assets for the campaign including informational materials, shareable social media assets, a promotional video, and a website page. 

General work (in accordance with stem4 communications strategy) 

Supporting charity communication e.g. creating or reviewing charity case studies, leaflets, supporting material, infographics, publications, marketing materials. 

Helping write award applications with other relevant members of the team. 

Being ‘brand guardian’ checking consistent communication. 

Updating the messaging document for stem4/branding guidelines. 

Working with CEO on producing policy and strategy docs. 

Keeping up to date with relevant news/policies etc. 

Supporting fundraising/team events. 

Undertaking research to help team projects. 

Being involved in the running the Youth Forum. 


Person Specification: Key skills/experience 

The ideal candidate would: 

● Be degree-level educated 

● Have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills 

● Be interested in mental health 

● Have a strong understanding and interest in popular social media platforms - including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok 

Be comfortable creating simple graphics and shortform videos for social media - or willing to learn 

● Be aware of (or be prepared to learn about) sensitivities relating to young people’s mental health 

● Have knowledge of pop culture and/or the issues that young people care about 

● Be able to manage their own workload, prioritising key tasks 

● Be creative, and have their own ideas to contribute 

● Be prepared to work with the CEO and external support on getting the messaging appropriate and beneficial 

● Be able to work collaboratively in a team 

A background in communications would be of helpful but not essential.

stem4 is a Wimbledon-based charity that supports teenage mental health. We provide information on identification, intervention and effective management of commonly occurring teenage mental health issues through our website, apps, and education programme which includes mental health videos and conferences.
