Job title:  Fundraising and Administrative Officer

Responsible to: Fundraising Manager

Salary:  Competitive

Location: The Stephen Lawrence Centre, Deptford, London SE8 4HU

Main purpose: The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust is looking for an experienced and motivated Fundraising and Administrative Officer to support our growing fundraising streams and assist in the recording and growth of external relationships and delivering a varied portfolio of projects and events.

The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust is a small charity with a unique national profile dedicated to improving the lives of young people and communities from disadvantaged and under-represented backgrounds.  The charity has recently been awarded a national day of commemoration and celebration of the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence.

Through our portfolio of high-impact programmes we:

  • Work with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds aged 13 to 30 to inspire and enable them to succeed in the career of their choice. 
  • Empower individuals and communities to create better places for people to live and work. 
  • Support people to create a fairer society in which everyone, regardless of their background, can flourish

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Fundraising and Administrative Officer to join the team and help us along our journey to achieving further growth.

Over the last two years, we have undergone an exciting journey to move from being London-focused to having national reach and presence through Stephen Lawrence Day and a developing a fundraising portfolio that includes Individual Giving, Events & Community Fundraising, Corporate Partnerships and Trusts & Foundations. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Fundraising and Administrative Officer to join the team and help us along our journey to achieving further growth.

Key skills / experience / abilities

 

  • Experience in running and maintaining a donor database for a charity or similar organisation.
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to personalise standard correspondence (thank you emails, monthly donation reminders, etc.)
  • The ability to manage his/her own workload, prioritise tasks and respond promptly to donor queries with minimal supervision, while also working as part of a wider team.
  • Excellent IT skills and experience of working with Google Drive, Excel, Word and Gmail.
  • Working knowledge of Fundraising Regulator and Data Protection / GDPR principles, and other relevant law and best practice guidance.
  • Understanding of and empathy for the work of the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust

 

Job Purpose:     

  • Support the Head of Operations and Fundraising Manager to grow the Trust’s income streams by maintaining relationships and excellent communications with Trustees, funders, corporates and individuals
  • Coordinating external events with pro bono resources
  • Delivering a portfolio of varied and exciting projects
  • Ensure existing and new relationships are stewarded effectively to secure long-term support for the Trust including our newly established Trust Ambassadors
  • To support on the roll out of the Friendship scheme, ensuring all necessary materials are rolled out and undertaking marketing activity to recruit members
  • To identify opportunities for income-generating activity by researching third-party fundraising and partnership opportunities
  • To ensure the new SLCT database (Donorfy) is utilised appropriately

 

Main tasks:

  • Manage and maintain all staff input into our donor database (Donorfy).
  • Deal promptly with donations received via a variety of pathways (online, cheque, cash, PayPal, BACS transfers, etc.).
  • Work in close partnership with the Head of Operations and Fundraising Manager to steward donor relationships by corresponding with supporters by email, letters and phone.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of donations received via a variety of donation portals and crowdfunding websites (JustGiving, Virgin Money etc).
  • Assist the fundraising team in sending out newsletters by email and keeping donors regulary updated.
  • Monitor and manage donations from our regular monthly donors and weekly financial report pulling and coding of income
  • To support on the successful delivery of Stephen Lawrence Day, identifying opportunities to generate income from the campaign and ensuring it’s messaging is amplified as widely as possible
  • Prepare timely reports for the Fundraising Manager and Head of Operations.
  • Simple book-keeping (donation records, expenditure, Gift Aid receipts, etc.).
  • To support the maintenance of the Trust’s website, ensuring it contains high quality content that accurately reflects opportunities for supporting the charity
  • To research new sources of funding and complete research for funding applications
  • To research funding proposals and draft as directed e.g charity of the year
  • To report to donors on the impact of our work and the important role they are playing in supporting this

 

Administrative

  • To lead on maintaining the SLCT database (Donorfy), ensuring it’s used appropriately
  • To ensure that accurate records of all supporter activity are tracked effectively
  • To maintain accurate and up to date records of all funding opportunities, appeals, approaches, donor contacts and coverage.

 

General

  • To attend supervisions, team meetings and other meetings, as and when required.
  • To attend internal and external training courses, as agreed with your line manager.
  • To represent the organisation at internal and external events including networking events, fundraising events and launch activities, as and when required, occasionally on evenings and weekends.
  • To ensure SLCT adhere to the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice, Charity Law, Health & Safety Law, GDPR and other relevant legislative requirements.
  • To undertake any other duties as required.
