Stockport, Greater Manchester
Job description

Chair of the Board of Trustees

• Unremunerated
• Reimbursement of reasonable essential expenses

Stockport Without Abuse is a highly regarded, specialist charity who has been supporting, empowering and educating individuals & families affected by domestic abuse since 1975, when we were then known as Stockport Women’s Aid, and before that Heaton Moor Women’s Group.

We are looking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees, as our long standing Chair steps back from this role. Stockport Without Abuse is entering an exciting ambitious new chapter of its life, as we set our new strategy and plans for the future, which the Chair will help to shape in collaboration with the Board and staff leadership team.

Main purpose of the role:
As Chair you will be responsible for ensuring the charity is well governed and able to achieve its charitable objectives in the context of a changing landscape and providing leadership and direction to the Board. You will use your knowledge, experience and skills to enable trustees to fulfil their responsibilities and work in partnership with the Board and leadership team to define and steer the governance and strategy of the charity - providing support and challenge in equal measure.

What we are looking for:
Experience of chairing and a sound understanding of principles of good governance is sought as well as a passion for the work of Stockport Without Abuse, our cause, our team and above all a passion for making long lasting change and a positive difference to the lives of anyone who is experiencing or who has experienced domestic abuse.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
• Significant leadership experience, preferably of both executive and non-executive teams in complex organisations with a focus on robust governance
• Experience of being a brand ambassador, with the drive and insight to both protect and promote the Stockport Without Abuse’s brand
• A commercial approach with experience of developing strategy in a dynamic environment with a strong focus on impact
• Ability and drive to support and enhance the fundraising efforts of the charity.
Board meetings are currently held monthly and in addition we ask the Chair to work closely with our Chief Executive on a regular basis as well as supporting and appraising the other Trustees on the Board.

Reasonable essential expenses are paid.

If you believe that you have the qualities and skills and passion to meet this challenging and exciting opportunity, we would like to hear from you.
