Central London, Greater London
Circa £60,000 - £75,000
Permanent, Full-time
Job description

Stonewall exists to bring about equality and acceptance for LGBT people in the UK and worldwide. Our vision is a world where everyone, everywhere is free to be themselves. We believe we're stronger united and we partner with organisations that help us create real change for the better. We have laid deep foundations across Britain - in some of our greatest institutions - so our communities can continue to find ways to flourish, and individuals can reach their full potential. We're here to support those who can't yet be themselves.

But our work is not finished yet. Not until everyone feels free to be who they are, wherever they are.

With a new Chief Executive and Chair, this is a very exciting time to join us as we undertake an ambitious work programme with a new vision, mission and new business priorities. Our aim is to deepen our work with different communities internationally, nationally, regionally and locally to achieve real change in the daily lives of lesbian, gay, bi and trans people.

Director of External Affairs

London office, or flexible working with significant travel to London

Circa £60,000 - £75,000

Stonewall, Martha Awojobi (of #CharitySoWhite), and Prospectus are delighted to be working together to recruit Stonewall's Director of External Affairs, a crucial part of the top team, reporting to the Chief Executive. Our External Affairs team increases understanding of the many different forms of inequality that affect the lives of LGBT people in Britain through our research and drives action to address inequality through our policy, campaigns and communications. They also build Stonewall's profile by engaging with press and strengthening our bond with our supporters.

The Director of External Affairs will drive awareness and insight and build Stonewall's opportunities to effect positive change in the UK and globally through our policy, research, communications and campaigns work. You will lead Stonewall's policy positions and direct our policy influencing and advocacy strategies, as well as building relationships with key policy makers and increasing our lobbying influence. You will also lead our research function to maintain our authority as an evidence-based campaigning organisation and oversee integrated campaigns that secure measurable positive impact for the communities we serve.

We are looking for a creative and digital-first strategic thinker, with a demonstrable track record of creating and delivering impactful, results-oriented research, communications and campaigns. With exceptional communication skills and a four nations approach, you will bring solid experience of networking, persuading and influencing leaders and stakeholders at all levels from a wide variety of sectors including government, business and other leading public and international bodies. You will be a highly inclusive leader and manager, with experience of coaching, supporting change and developing staff to reach their full potential. Crucially, you will proactively drive forward Stonewall's race equity and trans inclusion journey as we continue to embrace an intersectional approach.

At Stonewall we want you to feel involved in all aspects of our work and to have amazing opportunities during your time with us. Everyone is accepted for who they are, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marital status, race, faith or belief, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and whether you're pregnant or on family leave. In line with our commitments to race equity and trans inclusion, we are particularly seeking applications from trans people and/or People of Colour/BAME people. We have a number of staff network groups which provide peer support and safe spaces for staff who hold these and other identities.
