STOPAIDS are recruiting for a Campaigns and Media Officer.

Hours: Full time (28 hours per week)

Salary: £31,677.39 (Includes London Weighting at £3, 737)

Reports to: Advocacy Manager

Based at: Home Based Working in the UK (part time access to a London office available, flexible working policy)



We are a collaborative, UK based network bringing our 30 years of experience working on the HIV response to the broader global health space. We contribute to a global movement of actors seeking to challenge the systemic causes
of health inequity to end AIDS and ensure all people can realise their right to health and wellbeing. We give decision-makers the proof – and the push – they need to make informed and just decisions to help improve the lives of the millions of people around the world needing access to treatment, prevention, care and support services for HIV and other health conditions.

The Position

The Campaigns and Media Officer works with the Advocacy Team to develop, co- ordinate and guide the media and campaign activities for STOPAIDS.

The Campaigns and Media Officer is a source of expertise on public
facing campaign strategies and devising how these fit into broader advocacy plans. They have thorough experience in developing creative actions and assets and building momentum around key moments. They have experience monitoring the media and the ability to recognise strategic media opportunities to support us in meeting our advocacy objectives. The officer has strong demonstrable experience writing quotes, statements and opinion editorials and pitching them to a diverse range of media outlets. They work closely with the Office Coordinator to develop social media communications as well as the Youth Stop AIDS Coordinator to shape their contributions to STOPAIDS’ advocacy aims.

As with all STOPAIDS staff, and in partnership with the Director and the Networks and Development Manager, they will work to ensure the sustainability of the organisation by contributing 10% of their time to fundraising (application and report writing).

Key Accountabilities:

1.Support the development and delivery of STOPAIDS strategic advocacy objectives [20%]

  • Help to guide the strategic role of public campaigning and media work in the development, implementation, and review of STOPAIDS advocacy work through its working group meetings and exchanges with other strategic partners

  • Work with the advocacy team to develop clear messaging for our different advocacy areas

  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes for STOPAIDS’ different advocacy impact areas

  • Work collaboratively with campaigns and media representatives from our member organisations and other partners

  • Promote the Meaningful Involvement of People Living and Affected by HIV and other health issues and the values of STOPAIDS’ Anti-Oppression Framework.

    2. Lead on STOPAIDS media engagement across our advocacy issues (30%)

  • Monitor the media relevant to our advocacy issues and keep the team

    updated on key developments

  • Manage a media database and media relationships

  • Identify strategic media opportunities for STOPAIDS to progress its advocacy objectives

  • Support with the writing of quotes, statements, opinion editorials and identifying spokespeople for media opportunities across different media platforms.

    3. Work with the Office Coordinator and the Youth Stop AIDS Coordinator to develop creative social media and campaign assets and actions for our different advocacy areas (35%)

  • Work with the Office Coordinator to strengthen our social media communications strategies across our different advocacy areas

  • Work with the Office Coordinator to provide ideas around website content

  • Work closely with the Youth Stop AIDS Coordinator and the advocacy

    team to develop creative campaign actions

  • Identify and work collaboratively with designers and artists to develop

    creative campaign actions.

    4. Provide additional advocacy support and fundraising support to the Team when needed (5%)

    Person Specification
    Knowledge and Experience Essential

  • 1-2 years experience of developing and delivering campaigning strategies

  • Experience of developing creative campaign actions and assets

  • Proven knowledge and experience of the UK media sector

  • Experience of effectively using the media to build awareness around


  • Proven experience of working with members of a network and knowledge

    of how it is different to working in one single organisation

  • Knowledge of global health issues including the human right to health and

    the international HIV response

  • Strong contacts within the media across different outlets


  • Understanding of the key issues related to STOPAIDS advocacy
    priorities, including: access to appropriate and affordable medicine; funding for the HIV response and broader global health; safeguarding the role of the private sector in global health; the ethics around digital health technologies; global health governance; decolonising global health and the importance of holistic, community-led health services

  • Experience of providing support to organisations involved in advocacy and lobbying

  • Experience of relevant health advocacy and policy issues in the UK and Europe


Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for different platforms: print media, social media, blogs, campaign tool kits etc

  • Proven ability to develop and implement campaign strategies

  • Proven ability to create communication and campaign materials

  • Proven ability to develop creative online and in person campaign actions

  • Proven ability to support local, national and international advocacy

    initiatives of others.

  • Able to motivate/inspire others with ideas

  • Innovative, energetic, solution-orientated approach to work

  • Strong project planning skills with proven ability to organise and prioritise

    tasks and to manage own time efficiently

  • Ability to understand and manage project finances

  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook, Project, Powerpoint)

  • Knowledge of graphic creative software e.g indesign and canva

  • Knowledge and experience using campaign action platforms and building

    these into websites

  • Knowledge and experience using social media platforms

  • Available and able to travel in UK and Europe.
