We are seeking an all-rounder with excellent design skills, and a good understanding of coding, to work as part of our digital team, who has the ability to solve the day-to-day technical challenges that can arise in an organisation like Sustain.
Sustain is a small, dynamic, values-driven campaign organisation, working to improve the UK’s food, farming and fishing. We are frequently complimented for “punching well above our weight”. We value our staff and pride ourselves on creating an organisational culture that focuses on good relationships and working together to achieve ambitious change. Working as an alliance, we campaign – for example – for environmentally friendly farming and animal welfare, decent livelihoods in food production, healthy children’s food and curbs on junk food marketing.
Sustain has a well-respected and popular website receiving close to a million visits a year, a suite of micro-sites and activist platforms, a strong social media presence, and a range of publications and events that influence both policy-makers and public debate. We run a wide range of campaigns across the year, using the best of digital technology to amplify public concern and make sure that people’s voices are heard. We also maintain a range of databases that enable us to communicate effectively with 50,000 people and numerous organisations.
Most of Sustain’s design, visual communications, database, online maps, website and IT infrastructure work has been developed over the past 20 years by our highly creative and much valued Head of Digital, Gavin Dupée, working to a very high standard. During 2019, Gav wants to take a sabbatical, hence we are looking for someone exceptional to help Sustain maintain our high standards across a range of design, website programming, database and IT tasks; and also to ensure that our IT-based office systems operate smoothly. Gav will be available to assist and advise on a limited basis during this time. Subject to successful fundraising, and the individual’s skills and interests, there may be an opportunity to extend this role.
We recognise that the job description asks for a wide range of skills. If you are interested in the role, but feel you are stronger in some areas than others, please do consider applying, making clear how you think your skills and experience might fit with what Sustain needs.
