About the role
Do you enjoy empowering young people to make positive changes which benefit their local environment, health, and wellbeing?
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our team to work in Helsby/Frodsham to promote and enable walking, wheeling, cycling, and scooting as the sustainable way of travelling to schools, and for the journeys in the local community.
As the Active Travel Officer, you will be innovating, developing, and delivering tailor-made packages of activities and promotional material, contacting local press and generating media coverage of the project with support from the Sustrans press office to encourage and enable active travel.
The aim of the programme is to develop and deliver walking activities to achieve an increase in the current levels of physical activity, create travel behaviour change to include more active modes and measure travel behaviour change. You will advise and provide information to ‘school champions’, teachers, parents, governors, pupils, and residents.
You will carry out yearly surveys in local areas to identify the barriers and measure the baseline of pupil walking and cycling activity from home to school and other cycling journeys.
Due to the nature of the role, a full DBS is required.
We offer true hybrid working, with a mix of working from Authority office at least 1-2 days a week and the opportunity for home working, with flexible hours offered to suit individual circumstances.
This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake the project on behalf of Sustrans. You will be occasionally travelling across Helsby/Frodsham.
About you
You will be passionate about active travel and supporting and motivating others to make positive changes to everyday journeys, to benefit themselves, their local community, and the environment. You will be self-motivated and able to work independently to manage a varied workload.
You should have experience in building relationships with wide range of organisations, groups and individuals ideally having worked on physical activity, behavioural change projects, a wide range of people including young people.
You will be a skilled communicator, able to adapt your approach to engage and meet the needs of diverse audiences and have experience of planning and delivering engagement activities and promotional events.
