Base: Hybrid - Leeds Manchester or Newcastle


About the role

As our new Project Officer, you will join our Network Design team, assisting the Senior Project Officers in coordinating and facilitating the delivery of cycling, wheeling and walking infrastructure projects across the National Cycle Network in the north of England.

In this role you will support in both administrative tasks and all elements of the production of feasibility reports and design/delivery studies, you will also help urban designers & engineers/technical designers within the regional team occasionally assisting with design outputs. 

You will work with internal and external partners such as local authority partners and interested parties including landowners, to deliver the best outcomes when developing on and off highway walking and cycling schemes. 

As our Project Officer, you will be required to undertake site visits in the North of England and assist with partner and public engagement exercises such as meetings with local authorities and public facing engagements with community and cycling groups.

We offer a hybrid approach to working at Sustrans, allowing you the flexibility to work out of one of our hubs in our North Region located in Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle with time working from home as well. You will be expected to visit sites as required across the region.


About you

An effective communicator, you will build relationships easily allowing you to engage with diverse community groups, landowners and those in local authorities alike. 

You should have strong administrative skills, be able to produce engaging presentations and have experience in report writing; allowing you to complete feasibility studies, ideally with the ability to produce basic graphic outputs (maps etc) for use in them. In addition, you should have experience of working on community or environmental engagement projects.

Experience of computer design packages would be beneficial, but not essential (may include Sketch Up, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and AutoCAD) and some experience of using GIS mapping systems would be useful, although this can be learnt once in post.
