About the role

Our Project Support Officer role for the Active School Travel Programme is an exciting opportunity for you to influence change in the way children and young people travel to school. You will help young people embed active, sustainable travel into their everyday lives, making young people healthier and happier.

You will work closely with the Active School Travel Manager and the six Active Travel Officers to support the development and delivery of the Active School Travel Programme across Northern Ireland. You will organise and provide support to schools to help them to sustain active travel levels. You will help organise the delivery and communications of national school campaigns, such as Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel and Bike to School Week.

We offer true hybrid working, with a mix of the the opportunity to work from home and hot desk options in our Belfast and Derry office hubs, with flexible hours offered to suit individual circumstances.

This role will require occasional travel and work at locations across Northern Ireland as necessary to undertake the project on behalf of Sustrans.


About You

We believe in collaboration, so are looking for somebody who has experience of working with schools, young people and communities, with the ability to build successful working relationships with a diverse range of project partners.

You will have excellent communication skills, allowing you to both engage effectively with and motivate the wider community and so encouraging participation in events you deliver.

Ideally you will have experience of delivering physical activity lessons and have an understanding of community based or environmental projects, with a passion for sustainability.
