Sustrans is the charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle. We connect people and places, create liveable neighbourhoods, transform the school run and deliver a happier, healthier commute.   Sustrans is seeking people with a passion for place and urban design to join our Design and Engineering team.

Senior Urban Designer (Ref:  SUS2740)

£27,255 per annum 

37.5 hours per week – 12 month fixed term contract

based in Manchester

This is a very exciting role involving the design of walking and cycling routes, urban realm improvements and temporary infrastructure that create more pleasant places for people to walk and cycle..  You will also lead on technical aspects of our Liveable Towns and Cities programme, which aims to improve connectivity, safety, cohesion and appearance of the built environment within a community by engaging and working with the communities themselves.

Educated to degree level or equivalent or with a relevant qualification in urban design, landscape architecture or a related field, you will have experience of working on design projects with a significant level of community engagement.  You will have proven experience in workshop facilitation and experience of effective and productive partnership working.  Your excellent visual presentation skills will complement your excellent written and verbal communication skills and your ability to be proactive.  You will also have knowledge of current best practice in urban design and be committed to the promotion of sustainable transport.
