This is an opportunity to be the first employee and leader of a new charity, through a period of rapid growth.
Taban has been formed to incorporate and build on work with communities of mainly Farsi-speaking asylum seekers and refugees by a group of churches in Manchester. Taban volunteers provide crucial support to people seeking refuge in the UK, helping them to achieve the legal right to stay and then working with them as they build new lives here. The work has grown over the last five years to over 100 people being supported in different ways,with asylum applications, finding voluntary and paid work,accommodation and through many different bureaucratic processes.
The new charity is receiving core funding for the next three years from the Church of England, alongside a group of private donors. It has a diverse leadership group including expertise from business, finance and education. Partnerships have also been established with other charities and service providers in the field.
This appointment is an important step in the development of an organisation which we believe needs to grow over the next three years and help many more people.
Your overall responsibility will be to lead and develop the organisation, in consultation with the trustees and volunteers. Whilst a strategy and business plan has been put in place, there is flexibility to evolve the charity as it grows and you will have significant input into its shape and direction. As well as this leadership role, part of your time will be spent engaging directly in helping clients, alongside our volunteers.
