This is new role arising as a consequence of a re-organisation designed to maximise the number of people who can be supported using the current resources and as such this role provides an exciting opportunity to be part of the expansion in the scope of services in line with the strategic objectives.
The two charities, TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People provide support to people with tax problems when they cannot get the help they need from HMRC and cannot afford professional services. They help over 17000 people a year delivering advice on several helplines or by email and following up more complex cases by casework undertaken by both staff and volunteers. Those helped are on low incomes or otherwise vulnerable and are often disadvantaged by literacy or numeracy issues, mental or physical health issues, or are experiencing a family crisis or homelessness. Often they have tax debt as a consequence of not being engaged with HMRC for a number of years or older taxpayers may be experiencing a bereavement or change in circumstances.
This is a challenging opportunity for an experienced leader who has strong interpersonal skills and is able to support and motivate staff as well as develop relationships with external stakeholders as the charity expands it services and seeks to develop relationships with new corporate partners.
The ideal candidate will have call centre management experience as a key element of this role is to have management responsibility for the helplines operated at the charities. In addition project management experience would be useful.
This is a joint role across two charities, with an office in both London and Bridport, Dorset. The role can be undertaken at either location or can be home based.
