We are an ambitious Hospital charity with an exciting opportunity to join us on our team as a Fundraising Assistant, initially on a three month contract with potential to extend.
We currently raise between £1-2m a year for East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust which has four sites local to Hertfordshire, including the Lister Hospital (Stevenage) and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (North London). We are proud to raise funds to enhance the care provided by our wonderful clinical colleagues and to contribute to a positive patient experience. About you
Ideally you will already have experience in an administration or customer service role and looking to start a career in fundraising. You will be looking for 20-37.5 hours a week and can work flexibly including some evenings and weekends to support at fundraising events.
Main duties of the job
- Provide support to the department on a range of administrative tasks including, dealing with enquiries (postal, telephone, email, face to face), opening and sorting post.
- Work to build excellent relationships with donors to provide a high standard of customer care.
- Process one-off and regular donations ensuring procedures are followed and information is recorded correctly onto the database and thank you letters are sent.
- Work with cancer centre volunteers to support the team with administration tasks.
- To undertake specific fundraising projects and attend events as necessary or as required to support the department’s fundraising.
- To assist the fundraisers with administration of staff lottery, raffles and prize led promotion and fundraising as required.
- Support all fundraising activity and represent the charity at internal and external events.
- Manage ‘Gift in Kind’ donations and our ‘Gift in Kind’ Campaigns.

About the role
The postholder will have a unique opportunity to lead delivery of our communications strategy, supporting the delivery of our organisational objectives and ensuring we maximise our 20th anniversary year to raise IHP’s profile and grow our community.
You’ll manage a small, but fantastic team of committed communications professionals, whilst working alongside other teams to effectively tell IHP’s story, and the stories of those we serve. You’ll work with our fundraising team to collaborate on fundraising campaigns, our Corporate Partnerships team to engage pharmaceutical and logistics partners in new and exciting ways, and our Programmes team to work directly with NGO partners to gather content and demonstrate our impact through effective storytelling.
You will also be a part of the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for setting the strategic vision and direction of the organisation. This is a temporary role as a maternity cover starting in July 2024.
What you’ll be working on
- Lead on IHP’s 20th anniversary campaign including overseeing a pivotal stakeholder engagement event
- Implement and embed IHP’s newly developed brand identity across the organisation and across external channels.
-Oversee the marketing strategy for our self-designed and revolutionary software system, Boaz, helping to reach new customers and position as a leader in its field.
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders to develop communications opportunities and amplify IHP’s voice including employee engagement opportunities.
- Manage relationship with our social media agency to effectively execute IHP’s communications objectives and grow our audiences and engagement.
- Oversee the marketing delivery of our annual Christmas fundraising campaign.
Essential knowledge/transferable skills and experience:
- Demonstrable and successful communications experience
- Management level experience
- Marketing and brand awareness experience
- Knowledge of social media and how to utilise to maximise communication and engagement strength
- Proven track record of effective management of resources, including planning and coordination of staffing and budgetary resources

Interim Chief Executive Officer (Maternity Cover)
Fixed term: up to 12-months (from June)
Location: Based at our Youth Club in Westminster with some flexible working

Role purpose
• To provide leadership to Caxton for the charity to achieve its mission and deliver to its
beneficiaries.
• To be responsible for developing current services and developing new services that
benefit the young people of Caxton and is youth-led.
• To work with the Board and SLT to achieve its 2023-26 business strategy, plans and
targets - while ensuring the Board fulfils its responsibilities in the governance of the
charity.
• To ensure long term sustainability, through effective governance, sound finance and delivery of services.
• To keep the organisation on track to achieve its operational business plan.
Main Responsibilities
Leadership
• Provide, develop and implement Caxton’s strategic and operational plans, leading on
partnership and business development, and being an effective advocate for the charity
and our beneficiaries..
• Provide leadership for all Caxton employees, volunteers and associates including
direct management responsibility for three employees to ensure that Caxton delivers a
safe, effective and fun service for all of its members and their families.
Strategy
• To deliver the 2023-26 strategy.
• Implement a strategy review in the Autumn and tailor the operational plan accordingly.
• Identify and assess strategic risks, issues and opportunities and take responsibility for initiating and leading associated changes, with agreement from trustees.
Business Development:
• Work closely with the Fundraising Manager to ensure Caxton raises c.£500k pa to maintain in-years services.
• Work towards the achievement of long-term sustainability, developing the charity’s business model and maximising income, for example from fundraising, service contracts and earned income.
• To lead on the development of Caxton’s outdoor base and capital campaign

Financial Control and Governance
• Liaise with the Board, Senior Management Team and Accountants to ensure that the charity’s overall governance structure, policies and procedures are appropriate and effective, taking remedial measures and implementing changes as necessary in line with legal requirements and good practice.
• To ensure that adequate finance is available and to work with the Treasurer and the Finance and Facilities Officer, to produce regular management accounts and annual audited accounts in line with requirements.
• To attend all board meetings and quarterly subcommittee meetings, working with trustees on strategic matters.
Buildings Management
• To take accountability for the building management and compliance, working with the finance and facilities officer to ensure regular checks are made and the building is maintained within a budget.
Day-to-day Management
• Day-to-day management of the service to ensure it continues to be safe and effective. This includes being the safeguarding lead for the organisation.
Youth Government and Leadership
• To attend monthly Youth Government meetings and ensure that you are always amplifying the youth voice.
• To communicate effectively with young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities.
• To liaise with external agencies and create new opportunities for youth leadership.
External Relations
• To develop and maintain positive relationships with private sector donors, statutory, partners and funding organisations.
• To develop and maintain positive relationships with partners, local businesses, funders and other voluntary organisations, building alliances and networks to further the work of Caxton Youth Organisation.
• To promote and publicise the work of Caxton Youth Organisation.

THE ROLE

Oversee the Fundraising Manager to deliver SMART’s Fundraising Strategy/ monitor and grow the fundraising impact for SMART.
In line with SMART’s Business Plan, develop and maintain excellent external relationships with local authorities, corporates, relevant local communities and major donors to deliver sustainable income that meets objectives.
Direct and develop communications (social & professional media/online news and releases).
Oversight of the charity’s regular giving channels and development/maintenance of it.

Communications
Be the driving force to deliver SMART’s Communication Plan, ensuring SMART presents a professional, up to date and relevant image though all channels.
Support to review the effectiveness of the SMART Website and Intranet site, identifying and implementing improvements in line with organisational objectives.
Contribute to analysis of SMART’s social media accounts, including Facebook,
Instagram etc.
Managerial duties
Provide line management and appraisal for the Business team, including supervision to manage performance and against key targets
Provide direction, support and enable to perform their roles optimally.
Effectively communicate with and make sure team members are appropriately informed and resourced in order to do their jobs.
Provide guidance and supervision for any performance and capability issues.
Participate fully in SMART’s performance management and development process.

ABOUT YOU
Essential Criteria
Demonstrable track record of leading and delivering on income generation for at least 3 years.
Demonstrable experience of developing sustainable relationships with corporate and major donors.
Evidence of effective self-management /personal organisation and as well as leading a team of others to achieve objectives to time and to budget.
Positive, Resilient and able to work with challenges and change: innovative, hands on and proactive leadership skills.
Ability to think and act for broader organisational aims and be a part of the management team.
Sound experience of managing promotional budgets and income targets.
Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing – for internal and external relationships.
Commitment to service user involvement and co-production in the development of new services or businesses aligned with homelessness and rough sleeping.
Commitment to promoting equality and diversity.
Driving licence and use of own car essential.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and publishing tools.
Desirable Criteria
Ideally business development experience will have been gained in the not for profit sector.
A management /fundraising qualification and demonstrable commitment to ongoing professional development.
Knowledge of social/affordable housing sector.
Involvement in setting up of social enterprises, community interest companies or revenue generating business streams.
