Based in Oxford

15 hours per week working Monday and one other flexible day in week                     



We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated person to work with our vendors in Oxford and surrounding areas to continue their journey away from poverty towards social and financial inclusion.


Service Brokers work holistically with vendors and other agencies to develop person-led and sustainable solutions when accessing and maintaining specialist services in the areas of housing, financial capability, health & wellbeing, education & training, and employment. Service Brokers achieve this by conducting key assessments, getting to know vendors and supporting them to share specific issues in a safe and non-judgmental environment.


You will also support vendors to maximize their sales, increasing their financial well-being and employability. You will develop supportive relationships with vendors during sales transactions, and in one-to-one sessions in the office and on outreach in Birmingham.


To succeed in this job, you must have excellent communication skills, an ability to remain even-tempered when working with people who can be volatile or challenging and the ability to think on your feet.


You must be proficient in Microsoft packages with good organisational skills and the ability to juggle and prioritise demands from different directions. An understanding of the practical and emotional needs of disadvantaged people and/or people facing poverty, and a commitment to the social objectives of The Big Issue is essential.

Salary and Benefits


We offer:

  • A salary commensurate with the third sector, which can be confirmed on request
  • Incremental holiday entitlement starting at 25 days per year plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time staff) plus paid leave to care for a sick child or grandchild and a sick or elderly relation
