Central London, like many cities across the world, is an exciting and stimulating place. However, for some, it is a place to go when things have gone profoundly wrong and there is nowhere else. When people are on the edge, rough sleeping, isolated and in despair there must be a place to turn. The Connection is there to be with people as they overcome their problems, recover and move on to a meaningful, fulfilling life. However, this is not enough. The experiences of people on the edge matter. Their story must be told to those in a position of power and influence, so that rough sleeping is not an accepted feature of life in the UK.
The Connection at St. Martin’s tackles rough sleeping by:
• Providing services designed to help people to recognise their own strengths, recover from crisis and move away from the streets for good;
• Collaborating with others to achieve this – a person’s rough sleeping situation is rarely addressed by one agency working alone;
• Sharing our learning with others, to deepen our own understanding and create a more socially just society for those on the margins not just in London, but other parts of the UK and the world.
Both before and during the Pandemic, the Connection has been through an extended period of change. In the past year, our team have worked extremely hard and very effectively to design and implement a new service model. The key underlying principle in this change is a decision to focus on support for rough sleepers in central London who have complex support needs. Alongside this focus, we place a strong emphasis on the quality of relationships internally and externally.
About the role:
The Recovery and Opportunities Service Manager is a key member of our Services Management Team. The postholder will lead a team of Coordinators to take forward key priorities for the organisation, overseeing:
- CSTM’s Volunteering Programme (including Client, Community and Corporate Volunteering);
- Client Involvement;
- Recovery Programme of groups and activities
- Skills & Opportunities activities to help clients move towards and into education, training, volunteering and employment.
This role requires someone with a strong track record in providing high quality line management and support to a multidisciplinary team. Alongside overseeing the work of the team, the Recovery and Opportunities Manager will have the personal credibility to build confidence with employers and other partners to deliver routes into learning, training, volunteering and employment for our clients. The post-holder must be well organised, solution-focused and able to use coaching techniques to develop those around them. Finally, they must be a positive role model and committed to playing a key part in shaping the future design and delivery of CSTM’s services.
