About us

The Cotton Tree's vision is a society that fully respects the rights and dignity of asylum seekers and refugees, seeking justice and a flourishing life for all. Our mission is to offer personally sensitive free support (legal, social, practical, emotional) to refugees and asylum seekers as they seek to move on with their lives in the UK. We are authorised to offer legal advice at OISC Level 2, and we help asylum seekers to prepare their claims and to find solicitors, while we also provide practical support on housing, medical and other issues. Our members also find confidence and hope through our Heal and Grow branch, which facilitates refugee-led support groups and other occasional workshops tailored specifically for refugees and asylum seekers. We believe that relaxed time, professional expertise and a supportive community will enable individuals to move beyond their traumatic histories and start to rebuild their lives.

The role

The Cotton Tree is recruiting a solicitor or legal adviser with at least OISC Level 2 authorisation to join our small, busy legal and casework team on a part-time basis, supporting vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed legal professional or asylum caseworker to help shape and develop a strong, ethical, free legal service in a supportive, diverse and collaborative environment.

If you are interested in this post, please email us our CV plus a covering letter telling us how you meet the requirements of the job description and person specification below and explaining why you would like to work at the Cotton Tree. Please also add the Equality Monitoring Form.

Closing date: Monday 14 February
