We are seeking a permanent Director of Public Engagement to increase and inspire public support for Fairtrade leading Campaigning, Public Fundraising, Marketing and Communications including Media and Digital/Social Media. You will bring a high level of accountability, appetite for change, initiative and innovation to our work in leading and deepening our relationships with all of our public stakeholders:
- With the public, as supporters, at an individual and organisational level (campaigns) to increase public support and action
- With the public, as shoppers, in collaboration with commercial partners to grow product awareness and penetration
- Leading our relations with media and overseeing our external communications, including directly with the public through social media.
You will be a confident and considered decision maker with the leadership judgement and breadth to empower, motivate and realise the teams’ full potential. With experience of driving transformative change, you will create a truly enabling environment, ensuring our public engagement activities support and partner with the commercial and programmes teams. You will make sure problems/risks and issues are anticipated and dealt with, and lessons are learnt quickly and effectively.
We are in the final year of our 5-year strategy, and have just celebrated our 25th anniversary. During this time we’ve been one of the most successful and disruptive NGOs in the sector of international development. With one of the strongest grass root’s networks in the sector, we want to be transformative in how we communicate to the public across a whole range of audiences and channels to build on the legacy of the past 25 years. You will have substantial experience with responsibility for leading one or more of the following function; communications, marketing, digital/social or campaigning.
Each member of the senior leadership team is accountable for leading on international aspects related to their function. The Director of Public Engagement will deputise for the CEO on stakeholder relationships within the global Fairtrade system. You will also be a public facing ambassador for Fairtrade in the UK with knowledge of, and commitment to, Fairtrade and development issues. A persuasive & engaging presentation style is essential.
