(A full-time role equates to 35 hours per week, not including breaks)

Context

  • Who we are

The Feathers Association is a well-established, highly energetic charity delivering a range of programmes that focus on changing lives and communities for the better. The Charity provides opportunities for children, young people and communities, currently in and around London to develop in a positive way through informal education, sporting, cultural and recreation activities.

The Charity, founded in 1934 at the behest of the then Prince of Wales, has built up a substantial reputation for supporting centre-based youth work, has a youth and community centre based in the City of Westminster, which provides differing young people programmes Monday to Friday, throughout the day and evening. The Feathers Association has a membership of over 500 young people but has positively impacted on thousands of lives over the 88 years since it started. The centre’s facilities include: an IT suite, recreation room, a commercial kitchen, music / recording studio with links to Abbey Road Studios, astro turfed football pitch, dance studio with sprung floor and a skate park; all which are just at the side of Marylebone train and tube Stations.

We make a difference by providing young people and communities with the opportunity to take part in activities and development programmes that would not normally be open to them via school or home life.

  • A new era for the Charity

Whilst the Feathers Association has a long standing and rich heritage, the board of Trustees have embarked on ambitious plans to grow the organisation within London, as well as take it beyond the London borders to a national level.A new CEO and Chair was appointed earlier this year and with that a newly invigorated and engaged board, with diversity at the heart, has been formed along with a new Senior Leadership Team. The Feathers Association, as part of the expansion, is investing in a new internal team to deliver their vision.This is an exciting time to join the organisation and a fantastic opportunity to build a team within the role and unlock the huge potential the organisation has to offer.The new team will have the full support of the board and be able to draw on a wealth of expertise, in particular, marketing and PR.

  • Objectives of the post

This is a new post to develop and deliver the brand and marketing strategy for the Feathers Association; building upon the foundations of a historic brand operating for 80+ years and to push the Charity into new areas of the UK.  The Charity has embarked on an ambitious growth strategy which will require growth of the fundraising and marketing provision. A brand refresh has been undertaken and a new website is under development but there is much more to do.  New strategies coupled with hands-on implementation to grow / increase brand awareness and impact is now needed. Therefore, there is future potential for the Marketing & Digital Manager to hire and line-manage an assistant or intern to support the expected increasing demand on resources and grow the team.

The role will support key projects, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the CEO, the Board and Committee members.

The role
Principal accountabilities / responsibilities of the role:

  • Strategic Direction
    • Develop an engaging marketing and digital strategy that strengthens the brand and grows a range of audiences (Youth Club users, members of the local community, corporate sponsors and high-net-worth supporters as well as support campaigns for our events).
    • Create engaging content that raises awareness of our services to all stakeholders.
    • Work closely with the CEO, Director of Engagement and Communities, and the Interim Director of Corporate Sponsorship to develop products (these will primarily be related to fundraising activities);
    • Proactively seek opportunities to showcase the work of the Charity to external audiences.
  • Operational
    • Produce content for marketing materials, the Charity’s website and other digital media platforms, in particular, case studies that showcase the Charity’s impact on individuals and the local community;
    • Research, plan and deliver effective multi-channel marketing campaigns to promote both the centre’s programme of activities for Youth Club members, as well as various fundraising activities (such as events and corporate / high-net-worth individual partnerships);
    • Evaluate the performance of marketing campaigns and social media analytics; taking remedial action and regularly review the strategy;
    • Act as brand guardian across the organisation, developing both external marketing materials and internal communications, policies and training guides;
    • Oversee / undertake public relations activity as required;
    • Work with the COO to deliver an engaging annual report and accounts that compliments the fundraising activities;
    • Design briefs, work with current / source and engage third parties to deliver specialist creative work as required; managing those relationships to deliver quality outcomes;
    • Ensure GDPR compliance and confidentiality is met at all times;
    • Manage the marketing budget; proactively seeking cost efficiencies.

What success in this role will be measured on

  • Campaigns delivered on time and on budget;
  • Lead generation in line with or exceeding business targets;
  • High lead quality (conversion to fundraising achieved);
  • Product marketing drives awareness and engagement in a way that contributes to uptake of the products;
  • Audience and engagement analytics that reflect the strategic ambition.

Person Specification – what we are looking for

Qualification

  • Educated to degree level
  • Specific marketing qualifications or membership of a professional body (desirable)

Experience

  • 2 years’ marketing experience;
  • Editorial stewardship with the highest standards of editorial quality assurance;
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful multi-channel marketing campaigns that activate prospects / raise awareness;
  • Ability to work with colleagues in order to achieve common goals;
  • Ability to manage competing demands, delivering value-added improvements whilst maintaining service standards;
  • Understanding the challenges of the not for profit sector;
  • Proven track record of success delivering against targets or KPI’s.

Skills and knowledge

  • First class copy writing skills;
  • Excellent communication skills that builds effective working relationships with all stakeholders;
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to act as a confident ambassador for the Charity;
  • A good understanding of brand marketing principles;
  • Creative vision for designing products and campaigns;
  • Confident using Microsoft Office 365;
  • Knowledge and understanding of compliance with GDPR;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise work;
  • Basic design / editing skills and knowledge of relevant creative software packages (desirable);
  • Knowledge of / experience in delivering PR campaigns (highly desirable).
