Contact: Full time, 1-year contract (possibility to go permanent)   

 

Salary: £28,000 - 30,000 depending on experience     

 

 

About The Felix Project 

 

The Felix Project is London's leading food redistribution charity. We rescue surplus food from businesses, supermarkets, restaurants and farms. This food is nutritious, in-date, and safe – and includes a high proportion of fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and fish. If Felix did not rescue this food, it would be thrown away and wasted. Instead, we deliver it completely free of charge to local charities, schools, food banks, COVID food hubs and other organisations serving people in need. Our food is a vital lifeline for children and families, people on low incomes, people who have lost their jobs, the homeless, refugees, domestic abuse survivors, the elderly and keyworkers. Our vision is a London where no one goes hungry and good food is never wasted.  

 

The Felix Project is a very ambitious and dynamic young charity. We haven’t stopped growing since we were founded in 2016 in memory of Felix Byam Shaw, by his father, entrepreneur Justin Byam Shaw. Right now, we are running a very high-profile media fundraising campaign with the Evening Standard and Independent, which is on track to raise 10 million pounds. We have had celebrity endorsement from the likes of Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jack Whitehall. This winter, we will partner with FareShare to run their London depot independently. By the end of 2020, we plan to have delivered enough food for 20 million meals. We have huge growth plans for the next 4 years – aiming to have capacity to deliver food for 100 million meals by 2024. This will be enough to almost eradicate hunger in London.   

 

About you  

 

We are looking for a committed individual with great energy and a calm head to join our PR & Digital Marketing team for 1 year, with opportunity for the role to go permanent. The ideal candidate will understand how to create a great story, as well as how to share that story successfully on owned and earned channels (media, social media, influencers, email, website). You need to take on a multitude of tasks, work independently and see tasks through from start to finish. Time management will be crucial. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, happy to get stuck-in on a range of different activities, confident to take a lead but also keen to learn and develop within the role. Above all, we are looking for a candidate who believes in The Felix Project and what we are trying to achieve here in London.  

 

 

 

 

Role Overview 

 

The Marketing Officer role will be responsible for case studies & stories; content on organic marketing channels; social media management; media/pr support; campaign support; and any other ad-hoc tasks. The role will report into the Marketing and Digital Manager and help to implement the overarching Marketing Strategy (with a goal to become ‘one of London’s best-known charities’, in order to Felix to reach capacity for 100 million meals). The role will require working from home until further notice.  

 

Responsibilities 

 

  1. Case study management & storytelling 

Develop case studies and stories for use across owned, partner and media channels, to amplify awareness and/or encourage donor retention. 

  • Research story ideas, coming up with leads for who we might contact, and be able to discern between average & excellent stories. 

  • Reach out to & interview beneficiaries, volunteers, charity partners, brand partners and staff. 

  • Create a case study library for use across the organisation and partner organisations, including securing appropriate permissions and accompanying assets i.e. photography/video.  

  • Highlight stories that would make good media pitches and help to develop pitches. 

  • Find stories according to requests from media, donors, and partner brands.    

  • Attend daily operations calls and visit depots regularly to record the latest news.  

  • Keep up to date with the latest facts and stats, updating and disseminating core documents where appropriate to keep messaging aligned, accurate and on-brand.  

 

  1. Social media management 

Create engaging content to grow our social media platforms and help Felix become one of London’s best-known charities.  

  • Develop and implement an ambitious and engaging social media organic content strategy, in line with the Felix Brand & Marketing Strategy.  

  • Create organic social media campaigns to drive specific actions (donate, volunteer, supply) or to amplify reach/awareness. 

  • Engage with key influencers and brand ambassadors. 

  • Develop briefs and messaging for influencers.   

  • Support paid digital marketing campaigns.         

  • Keep abreast of all the latest technology developments, trends and algorithms. 

  • Manage Felix’s social community. 

  • Daily posting on channels & some out-of-hours working.  

 

  1. Working with media  

Amplify Felix’s organic messaging to reach as many people as possible without wasting donor investment, working with the Marketing Manager to engage influencers, brands and media outlets.  

  • Support ad-hoc media requests and help to plan visits.  

  • Develop relationships with key journalists and pitch stories. 

  • Help to compile regular media monitoring reports.  

  • Support The Marketing Manager to brief PR agencies on campaigns.  

 

  1. Content Production 

Produce content for owned channels and oversee content production where necessary. 

  • Develop briefs and guidelines for content production, to ensure content is on-brand and high-quality, especially when working with freelancers and pro-bono partners to create assets.   

  • Support retention communications, helping to produce email copy in line with Marketing Manager and Retention Manager’s strategies; produce regular email newsletters.  

  • Make updates to website where needed, producing content in line with SEO strategy.  

  • Produce content for partner channels, including securing top-quality photography from depots. 

  • Managing an asset library.   

 

Essential Experience 

  • Case study production and/or interviewing technique   

  • Copywriting and research 

  • Social media content production & management  

  • Briefing and working with freelance photographers / filmmakers  

  • Experience producing content in different formats, for different audiences  

  • Very strong understanding of the digital landscape and digital content 

  • Experience managing projects, with different competing deadlines  

  • Understanding of the media landscape & what makes good PR 

 

Desirable Experience 

 

  • Photography, film or design basics a plus   

  • Knowledge of the charity sector  

  • Knowledge of digital fundraising
