Role: Digital Platforms and Data Manager

Reports to: Head of Digital Platforms, Data and Technology

Direct reports: None

Salary: c.£35,000-£40,000, commensurate with experience

Contract: Permanent, full time

Location: Hybrid, 50% London, 50% home with occasional travel to the Society’s Bath office


Purpose of the role       

Lead the department’s work in digital business applications, integrations and data, particularly those relating to the CRM ecosystem, Web engagement and Business Intelligence

Be the first point of contact for users on all Data and Platform issues, and to work with the Head of Department to provide 1st / 2nd line user support for all user activity in the department. Solving and routing incidents to relevant 3rd parties where appropriate

Provide cover and support for the Department Head’s technical duties, and deputise in all areas during holidays


CRM, Web and Business Intelligence systems (At least 50% of time)

  • To be the lead technical point of contact for the management and day to day operations of the Society’s Microsoft Dynamics Solution, Website and online portal MyGSL, working with business users to understand their needs and provide improved solutions.
  • To administer, develop and integrate the CRM system and Web Content Platform (technology TBA), in partnership with the 3rd party suppliers
  • Maintain the Society’s databases, and the Power BI reporting/insight tools to access them
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes when required
  • To work in GSL projects and with business functions to develop long term plans for Marketing, Fundraising and a range of online systems such as education
  • Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
  • Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
  • Define a set of Standard use Reports and provide user training on creating their own reports
  • Configure user access and determine the correct levels of access required for each user. Apply the correct software client license to the user.
  • Minimise downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
  • Regular deduplication of data to ensure data integrity


  • Technology Duties
    Provide 1st line and 2nd line support of the society’s staff on general IT queries and escalate to 3rd parties where appropriate
  • Supporting remote workers
  • Provide support in Workplace, Identity Systems, Policy and Training, Infrastructure and Security
    Occasional builds of new hardware for staff use
  • Working with our events team to maintain Audio Visual equipment in our meeting spaces
    Deputise for the Head of IT during times of absence
  • Undertake other reasonable duties in accordance with the grading of the post as requested by the Head of Department

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience administering and developing CRM, Web and Business Intelligence solutions, ideally including Dynamics and Power BI, with a strong desire to work is a small, fast-paced technology department where the variety of work will be wide
  • Experience managing end users’ expectations, operational priorities and delivering ad-hoc training
  • Some technical knowledge and experience working with end user technology, infrastructure and the Office365 suite of applications including SharePoint /Teams.
  • Experience working with 3rd party suppliers to resolve operational issues and co-developing solutions for users
  • A flexible and customer-focussed approach to all work, with a strong desire to learn new skills and continuously improve the services offered

Desirable Criteria

  • Certifications/Qualifications in the Microsoft Dynamics
  • Experience working in Not-For-Profit, membership or publishing environments
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure, and securing Microsoft environments
  • Developing end user policies in areas such as acceptable use and best practice
  • Experience delivering occasional presentations directly to end users
