Mansfield, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
£20000 - £23000 per annum
Permanent, Full-time
Job description
Mentor / Youth Worker (Internally known as Inspire and Achieve Mentor)
Mansfield, Nottinghamshire (office/field-based, working at venues throughout Mansfield, Ashfield and North Notts)

Are you passionate about supporting and empowering young people? Do you have a safeguarding qualification or training? If so, this is an incredible opportunity to help underprivileged young people overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve their goals.

About Us

The Inspire and Achieve Foundation (IAF) is a local, Mansfield-based charity that helps disadvantaged young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) conquer challenges, find their motivation and work towards a positive future.

We run a variety of outreach, mentoring and training programmes, including the Prince’s Trust Team Programme, to help young people aged 16 – 25 gain confidence and progress into employment or education.

We’re now looking for a Mentor / Youth Worker to join us and help young people realise their full potential. Internally, this role is known as Inspire and Achieve Mentor.

The Rewards

- Salary of £20,000 - £23,000 per annum
- Make a lasting difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people
- Take on an exciting role where you’ll be out and about, rather than at a desk all day
- Join a team who are passionate about giving back to society
- Enhance your experience with an established local charity

Many of the young people we work with have low aspirations, low self-esteem, poor skills and often suffer from abuse, neglect, bullying, teenage pregnancy, addictions, poverty, homelessness, peer pressure or have care responsibilities.

We focus on a young person’s potential, rather than their past and give them the tools they need to broaden their horizons, gain confidence in their own abilities and work towards a future full of promise.

You will have the opportunity to act as a catalyst for positive change and help young people discover their true worth and create the lives they choose.

Your Role

As a Mentor / Youth Worker, you’ll provide NEET young people with the support, encouragement and guidance they need to progress into work, training or education.

Working with young people on a one-to-one basis and in group settings, you will:

- Deliver mentoring and support that engages and inspires young people
- Conduct mock interviews and help with CV writing and job applications
- Arrange work experience placements
- Complete paperwork accurately
- Occasionally support the Prince’s Trust Team Programme in Nottingham

About You

To join us as a Mentor / Youth Worker, you will need:

- A safeguarding qualification or training
- To be passionate about supporting young people
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A caring and empathetic nature
- A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle

An Information, Advice or Guidance (IAG) qualification would be beneficial, as would a teaching qualification. GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above in Maths and English would also be an advantage.

Other organisations may call this role Support Worker, Young People’s Support Worker, Youth Mentor, Young Person’s Mentor, Community Outreach Worker, Programme Co-ordinator, Outreach Worker, or Community Support Worker.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.

Webrecruit and IAF are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment. Equal opportunities are the only acceptable way to conduct business and we believe that the more inclusive our environments are, the better our work will be.
