Job title: Communities Manager

Reports to: The Jo Cox Foundation CEO

Term: 12 month contract with opportunity for extension

Start: November-December 2019

Remuneration: £34-36,000 pension contribution, 27 days annual leave pa (exc. bank holidays)

About the role

This is an exciting role working as part of a small but influential charity building a positive legacy for the late MP, Jo Cox. Following the  successful third year of The Great Get Together, we are looking for a Communities Manager to lead the growth of our organiser community to help evolve The Great Get Together from an annual event to a year-round, sustainable community-organising initiative. 

The successful candidate will take a proactive lead on developing and delivering the strategic and operational plans to support the growth of our grassroots community work. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with extensive experience of working on community-based initiatives and technical expertise of community cohesion theory and practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the strategic development and operational delivery of our grassroots More in Common community work, associated with The Great Get Together

  • Build monitoring and evaluation framework and data collection systems to ensure meaningful impact is measurable 

  • Empower existing organisers to build sustainability into their groups, increase diversity of organisers and attendees, and establish outreach work into marginalised communities 

  • Develop digital and offline tools in conjunction with organisers and with The Jo Cox Foundation’s subject expertise partners

  • Support groups and organisers to build self-sustaining and replicable finance models, in addition to capacity building on fundraising skills

  • Set work-plan deadlines and targets in order to produce regular reports on KPIs to both the CEO and the GGT Campaign Director, including measurements on diversity and inclusion, community reach, social connections impact, and other M&E indicators

  • Design and deliver regional training workshops with and for organisers via partnerships.

About You:

  • Extensive experience of developing community cohesion initiatives and solid working knowledge of relevant theories and best practice.

  • Proven experience developing and adapting M&E frameworks

  • Proven knowledge of and experience implementing approaches to  increase inclusivity and diversity across campaigns, including through partnerships.

  • Strategic and outcome focused with strong analytical skills

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and approach challenges with a proactive and positive attitude

  • Proven leadership skills and confidence in communicating with a diverse variety of stakeholders as an ambassador for The Foundation.

  • Compassionate and positive approach and proven commitment to The Jo Cox Foundation’s core values.
