Our helping volunteers are a vital part of the team at The Listening Place; not only are they the first face a suicidal person visiting sees, they are also central to the smooth running of the shift.
The Listening Place is a small and rapidly expanding volunteer-led charity set up in 2016 to provide on-going face to face support for those with suicidal feelings, in a warm, welcoming and non-judgmental environment. We are looking for helping volunteers to join our growing group of volunteers to help us provide this support.
If you are warm and approachable, with the empathy to greet distressed visitors, the resilience to support the other members of your team, and the willingness to undertake a variety of admin and other tasks with a cheerful and helpful attitude, please get in touch! Although no formal qualifications are necessary for this role, it is important that you are proactive, reliable, a self-starter and a team player with a basic understanding of IT.
We’d also like to point out that the application process is selective and involves attending an information meeting, a 1:1 interview and a 4-5 hour training programme. In addition, in order to ensure continuity for our visitors, we require a six month minimum commitment from our helping volunteers, as well as a one month notice period and the ability to commit to a regular weekly or fortnightly 4-hour shift.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
