Job description

LCC owns and operates six crematoria in the south of England, including the oldest and one of the newest in the country. Although unquoted, its shares are owned by a broad range of about 200 shareholders, with the Cremation Society of Great Britain, a charity, holding a controlling interest. Turnover is about £7 million. LCC’s head office is at Golders Green, north west London and the majority of board meetings are in central London. There are usually five formal board meetings a year with additional ad hoc meetings arranged from time to time as necessary.

The successful candidate will specifically bring financial expertise and is likely to have a leading accounting qualification. He/ she will join an existing team of non-executive directors with a variety of skills.

The new non-executive director will make a creative contribution to the board by providing independent oversight and constructive challenge to the managing director and executive finance team. He/ she will be involved with corporate governance, policy making and planning.

In addition to the usual responsibilities of a non-executive director, the successful candidate will be available to the chairman and executive team for general and financial advice as necessary. The new non-executive will represent the board in discussions with the auditors on matters arising from the audit and serve as secretary to the remuneration committee.
