Blackburn, Blackburn with Darwen
£40,000 - £48,000 per year
Permanent, Full-time
Job description

The Making Rooms is a vibrant and fascinating makerspace, creative hub and new business incubator that for the past 4 years has provided Blackburn with Darwen and Lancashire with commercial design and prototyping services for local businesses; business accelerator and incubation services for budding entrepreneurs and artists; and community engagement for all ages and backgrounds through Lancashire's only Fab Lab.

In addition to developing a thriving community of entrepreneurs, makers, artists and craftspeople both within and beyond its two floors of incubation workshop, office and studio space, The Making Rooms houses the best equipped Fab Lab in the UK with a wide range of advanced fabrication equipment including industrial 3D printing technologies; CNC machining, laser cutting, electronics and ceramics.

An unbelievable opportunity has arisen to take the reigns of this rapidly growing, well-embedded and financially sustainable Social Enterprise (Community Interest Company) and guide it through the next stage in its journey and beyond. As the only executive Director of The Making Rooms and supported by a small non-executive board you will work with stakeholders from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, local business leaders and academia, to drive The Making Rooms forward, helping to start new businesses, create new jobs and provide fun and interesting activities and programmes to deliver positive socio-economic impact for the borough.

You will be supported by a small but hugely dedicated and talented team of two staff initially, but you may well grow this in time.

This role is challenging, varied and probably quite different from anything you've done before, and for the right person will be extremely rewarding. A detailed role description is attached.
