About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Communications Volunteer for the Harrogate and district Group. As a Communications Volunteer you will make sure the local MS community is aware of our updates and upcoming activities or events at the group.
Our group is run by a small and friendly team of volunteers who fundraise and deliver a range of activities and services to support people with MS in the Harrogate area. As Communications Volunteer, you would take the lead on creating and editing our group newsletter three times a year using our bespoke online publishing platform, Web to Print. You will also liaise with and be supported by the rest of the volunteer team, to help cross promote the newsletter and stories of interest via social media and to new audiences. Once you are familiar with Web to Print, you’ll be our go to person for other publicity materials, like posters and leaflets.
This role is home based and very flexible. Ideally, you will be able to attend an evening group planning meeting, normally on the third Monday of the month at Community House, East Parade. You'll received a welcome, induction and training relevant to the role, ongoing support from our friendly volunteer team/ local staff member, plus opportunities to meet via videoconference with other Communications Volunteer to swap tips and ideas.
We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones.
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You don’t have to have personal experience of living with MS, but you do need to have an understanding of how a long term condition might affect an individual and their family, or be willing to be guided on this via a combination of our key publications such as ‘what is MS’ and expert input from our existing volunteer team.
You will need to be comfortable using the internet and email and be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English. You will be able to volunteer as part of a team.
You’ll need to live in or near the Harrogate area to carry out this role.
