About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Communications Volunteer for the Worcester and District Group. As a Communications Volunteer you will make sure the local MS community is aware of our updates and upcoming activities or events at the group. We would particularly welcome help with the group newsletter and social media.
We are a small and friendly group of volunteers who meet regularly to plan social, information and other opportunities for people affected by MS in the area. We run a number of exercise opportunities in the area, plus some informal socials. Some of our volunteers are trained to offer support and information about local services, and we provide grants to help pay for items that will have a significant positive impact on the lives of those affected by MS. We also produce a newsletter, and work with local MS Nurse teams to run information opportunities for people newly diagnosed with MS.
Time commitments for this role may vary but we estimate around 1-3 hours per week. Key tasks include gathering content for, and preparing our newsletter, help managing the group's Facebook page, plus we meet as a team roughly every couple of months for about two hours. The role is flexible and home-based, and we will fit around you, in terms of your interests and time available.
We have guidance available for volunteers regarding content for, and management of, newsletters and social medial accounts. You will receive a welcome pack and volunteer induction and support from the rest of the volunteer team and a local member of staff. You’ll also have opportunities to attend volunteer forums to meet with other volunteers, share learning and experiences and receive national updates. Out of pocket expenses can be claimed in line with our expenses policy.
We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones.
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You will be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
Being comfortable with IT and familiar with social media would be important in this role.
You’ll need to be based in or near the Worcestershire area to carry out this role.
