Making sure our volunteers and members are kept up-to-date with both local and national news is vital. Our communication volunteers use social media and newsletters to make sure everyone from our MS community is informed about any MS Society updates as well as upcoming activities or events.
We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.
About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Communications Volunteer for our York and district Group. As a Communications Volunteer you will make sure the local MS community is aware of our updates and upcoming activities or events at the group.
Our group is run by a friendly team of volunteers who fundraise and deliver a range of activities and services to support people with multiple sclerosis (MS) locally and we really need someone to help spread the word about what we do!
This is a key role for our group this year as we aim to improve our communications and reach out to younger people. You will take the lead on editing and publishing our Group newsletter twice a year. Depending on your interests and time available, you might also help us develop our social media and online profile, liaising with our Group Coordinating team. This role has a huge potential to make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS in York. It is also a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones.
We estimate that this role will take around 2 to 3 hours a month. Ideally, you will be able to attend a group planning meeting every other month at the Holiday Inn on Tadcaster Road, but this is not essential as we welcome your involvement whether you are working full time or not - this role is very flexible!
We have a bespoke publishing platform to make production of our newsletter as simple as possible. You'll receive a welcome, induction and training relevant to the role, ongoing support from our friendly volunteer team and local staff member.
We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones.
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You will need to be comfortable using the internet and email and confident in use of Facebook, or willing to learn. You will be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
You’ll need to live in or near the York area to carry out this role.
