Our local groups provide services and support to make a difference for local people affected by MS. Our Group Coordinators use their local knowledge and leadership skills to organise and oversee a local group.
We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.
About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for the Croydon Group. As a Group Coordinator you will be acting as an ambassador for the group, developing annual plans, leading the group’s activities and recruiting and supporting group volunteers. You will also lead the monthly group meetings and represent the group at local council events and affairs.
The purpose of the role is to provide leadership to the group, ensuring that volunteers work together as an effective team to offer services and activities which meet the needs of local people affected by MS. Specific tasks include ensuring good and regular communication within the group; coordinating the activities of the local group; being the face of the group locally, and the main link between the local group and MS Society staff.
You will volunteer closely with the Finance Volunteer to oversee the appropriate use of group funds, and attend relevant meetings where possible. There may also be opportunities to link with other organisations for partnership work as appropriate. The current group is small but active and runs a fortnightly coffee morning, a young person’s group on a Saturday, numerous outings and holds an annual Christmas lunch.
We estimate this role needs around five hours a week. You will also be required to attend a monthly team meeting, which takes place on a Tuesday evening.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS..
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be able to coordinate and support a team of volunteers.
You must be based in or near the Croydon area to carry out this role.
