Our passenger assistants support the Volunteer Driver in making journeys accessible and safe to everyone. They use their excellent interpersonal skills to make sure passengers are safe and feel comfortable.
We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.
About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Passenger Assistant for the South West Bucks Group. As a Passenger Assistant you will be assisting the driver and helping passengers with any requirements.
We currently have a small team of friendly and active volunteers who are working to provide support and social opportunities to people affected by MS in the local area. We’re at a really exciting time in the group where we are looking at our longer term plans and are working towards finding opportunities to reach out to new groups of people.
The Passenger Assistants are an integral part of the team and will be working with the Volunteer Drivers to ensure that people are transported safely and comfortably to and from socials and events. The group currently has 1 minibus and this is used on a regular basis to help people affected by MS to attend socials and fundraising events locally.
You will be volunteering out and about within the local community and as part of the wider volunteering team. We are very flexible about the hours and days you volunteer because we understand that you have other commitments, but the anticipated time for this role is expected to be approximately 6-12 hours per month, but this can be decided with the team.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills, learn new ones and help to make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS. You will receive a welcome pack and volunteer induction, as well as regular support from a local member of staff. You’ll also have opportunities to attend volunteer forums to meet with other volunteers, share learning and experiences and receive national updates. Out of pocket expenses can be claimed in line with our expenses policy.
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be friendly and welcoming and physically able to manoeuvre wheelchairs.
You’ll need to be based in or near the area of South West Bucks to carry out this role.
