About us:

The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest community funder in the UK - we’re proud to award money raised by players of The National Lottery  to communities across the UK. Last year alone we gave out over half a billion pounds (£508.5 million) of National Lottery funding to over 11,000 community projects across the UK, enabling even more people and communities to bring their ideas and ambitions to life. We support a wide range of health, educational, environmental, and charitable projects with grants ranging from as little as £500 to multi-million-pound programmes. 86% of our new grants were for less than £10k.

At the heart of everything we do is the belief that when people are in the lead, communities thrive. About the Role:

We’re an award-winning team, established in 2017 to tell the story of the difference our funding makes. We’re finding new ways to gather and share knowledge about our grants, from using evidence and stories to write accessible, engaging content to building an evidence library of the Fund’s work. We’re also working to change how the whole organisation thinks about learning, to make the most of insights from our grantholders and our own staff. We want to tell the world about the extraordinary work the Fund supports, and to share those stories as vividly and accessibly as possible.

We are looking for a Level 3 Junior Content Producer Apprentice (internal job title Knowledge and Learning Apprentice) to join our team in Birmingham.

This an entry level post, giving you the chance to develop and try out different elements of content production, from initial research, to bringing your findings together and presenting them in a range of different formats. We work on a range of topics, anything from tackling homelessness or loneliness, to the role of community groups during the pandemic.

 

As an apprentice:

  • You’ll learn to research and find content by reviewing reports, databases, videos and websites. You’ll get to try out different interview techniques, by shadowing your colleagues and then talking to staff, charity workers and community representatives.
  • You’ll work with colleagues to bring together and write up the findings. These could be in a range of formats from reports and webpages to summaries and blogs.
  • You’ll find, tag, summarise and upload documents to our internal and external platforms. This is something you’ll do weekly, building your information management skills.
  • You can also have a go at designing and producing multimedia content, such as podcasts, presentations, blogs, videos and/or vlogs.
  • With our support, you’ll get to develop basic quantitative research skills by doing simple data analyses.
  • You’ll also get to test our content on users to make sure it is engaging.

 

You’ll spend four days a week working with us and one day a week doing distance learning, one-to-one or group coaching with a qualified skills coach, or shadowing your colleagues.

We would particularly welcome applications from people from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic backgrounds and disabled people.

 

Contract Type: Two years fixed term contract

Hours: 37 Hours per week including 1 day a week at college or on-the-job learning

Interview Date: Interviews to be held on 8th, 9th, and 10th September

 

Essential Criteria:

What are we looking for?

  • We need someone who loves reading and writing. We don’t mind how you gained your strong writing skills – perhaps through schoolwork, through personal journaling or creative writing, through your hobbies, volunteering or work experience.
  • We want someone who is eager to communicate, to make an impact through their work.
  • You have a curious mindset. You want to tell the whole story, which means researching it thoroughly. We need someone who cares about the detail and the context, and looks for ways to find out more.

 

Apprentices must meet the following criteria for the course aspect:

  • Be at least 16 years old.
  • Have English and Maths GCSEs at grade C (4) or above.
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK.
  • Not hold a qualification in a similar subject at level 3 or higher. Similar subjects include creating media content and creative and professional writing subjects. If you are not sure if your qualification rules you out for this post, then please do contact us for advice.

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Some experience of producing multimedia content such as blogs, reports, presentations, podcasts, vlogs or web pages.
