Job description

This role will deliver professional, timely and trusted communications which motivate, inspire, inform and engage stakeholders of a new innovative Research Centre exploring human wellbeing for a better world.  

The Centre

The Centre for the Study of Global Development (CSGD) is an innovative new research initiative in the OU’s Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies.  Launched in 2022, the new research Centre brings together all the faculty’s academic expertise to create a unified space for multi and interdisciplinary research with the objective of improving human wellbeing and advancing aspects of the sustainable development goals within and across all countries that relate to poverty, health, wellbeing, education, decent jobs, and employment. 

The role

The postholder will work closely with the CSGD management team and the faculty’s communications and digital engagement team, as well as with research leads, and academic staff across the faculty.

You will develop content, deliver communications projects, or manage communications channels in order to deliver professional, timely and trusted communications which motivate, inspire, inform and engage stakeholders. You will play a key role in helping the Centre to engage priority audiences,including potential partners, policymakers, and influential organisations.

Skills and experience

  • Minimum of a Second-Class Honours Degree or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working in a communication, public engagement, research, or research management role.
  • Excellent writing skills – a proven ability to write clear, engaging, and accessible copy for different audiences and channels including websites, social media and print publications.
  • Experience of using content management systems i.e., Drupal, WordPress etc to upload text and multimedia to create digital content.
  • Experience of managing social media accounts in a professional capacity.
  • Prior experience of developing and implementing communications projects and campaigns and evaluating their success against set objectives.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
  • Proven ability to work creatively to develop innovative and workable solutions.
