Who are we?
Established in the middle of the pandemic in autumn 2020, The Recruitment Junction is a Christian charity, operating as the first recruitment agency in the north east to place people with criminal convictions into paid work. Our vision is to push back on regional unemployment, as we see ex-offenders rediscover a sense of purpose through work, becoming role models who will drive positive generational impact across their families.
This is already unfolding in such exciting ways – as a start-up charity operating in a recession, we have received grant funding and been awarded significant contracted commissions from a variety of private and public sources, that is propelling our growth at a much faster pace than anticipated. Many local and national employers are trusting us to fill their vacancies, and most importantly have given second chances and paid jobs to 85 people with convictions so far, even in the midst of repeated lockdowns. The majority of those we’ve helped into work till now are at the older end of the workforce, or have committed more serious crimes – in any other world, not the easy-to-place or ‘low-hanging fruit’ – and all the more rewarding, and impactful, as a result.

Overview of the main tasks
Interviewing ex-offenders face-to-face, to assess their work-readiness, offering 1:2:1 job coaching, booking them onto short vocational courses as required, supporting them to find good quality and meaningful work; also offering 6-months in-work mentoring support once they are placed in a job
Re-writing CVs and preparing letters of disclosure
Assisting with job search, application forms and mock interview practice
Proactively approaching local employers to find vacancies that match your caseload of candidates, with a view to securing interviews and job offers for them
Who are you?
The right person for this role will be a confident self-starter who doesn’t generally take no for an answer! You will enjoy engaging with people from all walks of life – as much at ease in the boardroom as on the streets, as the saying goes.
There is no “set type” of work experience that would qualify you for the job, but we would expect you to have worked for at least 3-5 years already. Or you may be at a much more advanced stage in your working life and be looking for a complete role change.
You will certainly find the idea of talking to people with convictions something which fills you with compassion, and a practical desire to see them move on with their life, and above all a strong belief that they can. You will be undaunted by the prospect of ‘cold-calling’ an unknown employer, to advocate passionately as to why their firm should consider hiring your candidate.
