About The Royal British Legion

Careers in People and Legal

Across the country, in every city and on every street, the Legion is there to support our Armed Forces community. As the largest charity of our kind, we have 235,000 members supported by our Membership team, 60,000 volunteers supported by our Volunteering team, and a network of partners all helping us give support wherever and whenever it's needed.

At its heart, the Legion is a people organisation. People who want to do the very best for others, while at the same time making the most of the opportunities and experiences we offer them.

It's this mission, this scale, this opportunity and the values we all live by, that makes the Legion such a fulfilling place to thrive.

Within our People and Legal directorates, you’ll find teams such as Human Resources, Learning and Organisational Development, Legal, Governance, Public Affairs and Public Policy, and Health and Safety. If you were to join any of them, you’d be central to ensuring this vision comes to life, and that our people operations run efficiently both internally and externally.

So, if you want to give your days meaning. To put your passion into a role with real impact. To support people and be supported yourself. In a team that faces every challenge together. Whatever your interests and ambitions, we think you’ll find a role here that works for you, with career opportunities right across the UK.

As an inclusive employer, we welcome conversations on flexible working and any reasonable adjustments that may be required.

The Role

Local Responsibility - National Impact. This is an exciting and challenging role. CIPD Level 5 or above, as part of a team, you will be responsible for leading a HR initiative across a regional area. We’ll rely on you to champion our values and ensure that all our ER interventions are focused on supporting our organisation and colleagues.

You will need to be able to work in a fast-paced, time restricted busy environment and demonstrate a “can do” approach to any challenges. In this role you will be responsible for providing professional, consistent, and effective Employee Relations advice to colleagues and people managers. You’ll primarily work in our Regional Operations Directorate which is currently going through a Welfare re-design.  You will need significant experience in restructures and consultation processes.  Moreover, you will play a crucial role in shaping the Royal British Legion HR culture.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be expected to use your experience of collective consultation and work with restructures and OD changes and provide expert ER advice / support.

You’ll be providing clear guidance to managers regarding their responsibilities within a process and procedure and the elements the HR function will undertake.

You’ll be alert to coaching, guiding and supporting people managers to formulate pragmatic and business focussed solutions, balancing that with policy application and broader employment legislation.

You will be passionate about excellent customer service and delivering professional HR support to the business and be able to showcase your strong commercial approach and understanding of business needs.

You will be analysing data and management information in order to provide clear people information to the organisation.

You’ll be enthusiastic, flexible in your approach, open to learning and comfortable with change and the ambiguity that comes with it.

You’ll be able to balance multiple priorities and work streams; and use your excellent communication skills including listening, writing and presentation.

You will be covering a National remit; currently due to the Covid-19 pandemic your work will be home based.

Diversity Statement

We believe that the compassion, understanding and service we show each, and every individual customer should be reflected in the way we all support, respect and include every individual who works with us.

It’s because of this that we have strived hard to create a One Legion culture that we can all feel part of and succeed in. It’s why we make sure that you have the opportunities you need to learn and develop. It’s why we’re invested in making RBL a truly inclusive place to work, where everyone can be themselves. It’s why you’re welcome, whoever you might be.

It’s why we welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
