Job Title: Social Media Officer 

Region: London (hybrid working) or Home Based 

Directorate: Remembrance and Marketing 

Contract: Permanent, Full Time, 35 hours per week 

Salary: £26,550 to £28,025 per annum, plus £4,452 London Weighting if applicable 

The Role 

At the Royal British Legion, we believe in building on potential. As a Social Media Officer your ability to manage day-to-day interactions with supporters, and create, curate, share and monitor content across the Legion’s social media channels could have a real impact on people’s lives.

As a Social Media Officer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining close working relationships with the Marketing and other teams ensure content is joined up and effective in maximising engagement with key audiences. 

If successful, the main duties of your role will be: 

  • Daily monitoring, responding and reporting of online conversations relating to the Legion. 

  • Identifying and assessing potential reputation risks to the Legion across all social media channels and managing the effective escalation and appropriate responses.  

  • Writing and editing of copy and creating multimedia assets for social media as required. 

  • Maintaining and updating accounts across key social media platforms as directed by the Social Media Manager. 

  • Identifying potential social media influencers and nurture relationships with key supporters. 

  • Supporting the Social Media Manager in implementing the social media strategy and ensuring a consistent message is shared with our key audiences. 

  • Maintaining a proactive approach to communications with the Fundraising Directorate to support engagement with Events and Campaigns. 

  • Leading on monthly reporting and support the Social Media Manager on campaign-specific  reporting across all social media channels 

  • Staying informed of upcoming trends and developments within the field of social media and share regular insights across the team. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of managing online communities and creating content for social media platforms. You will be organised and proactive individual with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects, who should be equally comfortable working independently and as part of smaller working groups.   

Please note that this role can be based at our London office, which is located at Haig House, 199 Borough High Street, London SE1 1AA, or can be Home based. London Weighting will be offered to candidates based at Haig House with an expectation to attend the London office regularly (minimum of 2 days per week). Candidates taking up the role on a remote basis from Home will not be eligible for London Weighting.
